Appears to be First American Edition- title page w/ correct publisher Backus & Whiting Albany & date 1806 spine states only Fenelon"". Full leather binding spine w/ gold gilt decoration 251 pages b/w frontis 6.75"" x 4.25"". Binding shows some soil edge wear rubbing sm. corner bumps- still actually displays fairly well. Hinge cracks to both covers- a bit fragile but they are still pretty well attached. Ancient ink signature inside front cover & at top margin of title page. Foxing to endpapers frontis title page- actual text is relatively bright & free of discolor- maybe minor spotting in some margins. Mild rippling to pages but no significant signs of moisture & no musty smell. To my mind- a decent example. Backus and Whiting hardcover

Lots of spotty light stains and other blemishes scattered throughout the text but otherwise no notes or underlining. Rear endpapers torn and covered in pencil scribbles. Binding secure. 1800FGN11-F-14Paris: Chez Santain c1800. Leather. Very Good. 5.5" by 3.5". None. A charming book of fables by Francois Fenelon. With an engraved title page frontispiece and three further plates. Francois Fenelon 6 August 1651 7 January 1715 was a French Roman Catholic archbishop theologian poet and writer. He today is remembered mostly as the author of The adventures of Telemachus a thinly veiled attack on the French monarchy first published in 1699. As tutor Fenelon was charged with guiding the character formation of a future King of France. He wrote several important works specifically to guide his young charge. These include his Fables and his Dialogues des Morts. In a half calf binding with marbled paper-covered boards. Externally sound with slight rubbing and wear to extremities. Internally firmly bound bright with scattered spots. Very Good Chez Santain hardcover
