brossura La rivalutazione dei racconti della Mansfield è avvenuta per effetto di una sinergia di impulsi derivati dalla critica femminista, dalla crescente attenzione nei confronti della letteratura modernista e dal fiorire, in Gran Bretagna e negli Stati Uniti, di studi sulla narrativa breve. E' in quest'ultima prospettiva che si pone questo volume, in cui, attraverso una dettagliata analisi testuale che prende in esame buona parte della produzione più matura della Mansfield, si dimostra il suo impegno per la trasformazione ed il perfezionamento di questo genere narrativo, che trova in lei uno dei maggiori artefici della sua nobilitazione.

Initially published in 1923 as Vol. III of Chapman's five-volume edition of The Novels. The 'illustrations from contemporary sources' are a new feature, augmented here by type-facsimiles of the first volume of the edition of 1814, and all three volumes of the second edition of 1816. Each of Chapman's five volumes is complete in itself, with introductory note and considerable bibliographical and literary apparatus. Importantly the present text was not set up specifically for the 1923 edition but reprinted from the Oxford edition of 1912 (see Gilson E133). Gilson E150 (recording the five-volume collection).
