Overall a Very Good solid copy in somewhat rare dustwrapper.<br/><br/>John Middleton Murry Katherine Mansfield's husband published this collection of short stories on the late author's behalf. It contains 21 stories 6 finished and 15 unfinished that Mansfield was writing during/after the production of her most recent book The Garden Party 1922. While Mansfield had decided on the title for this particular compilation Murry could only speculate on the stories she intended to feature; at the age of 34 she died suddenly from complications of her tuberculosis. A smart first edition of this collection of short stories from New Zealand writer and critic Katherine Mansfield. First edition of this collection of stories. The Albatross Modern Continental Library. A collection of short stories with titles including: "The Tiredness of Rosabel" "New Dresses" "Violet" "Late at Night" and the well-known piece "The Doll's House". Written by Kathleen Mansfield Murry a New Zealand writer and critic who was an important figure in the modernist movement. In the original paper covered boards. Externally smart with minor wear and light sunning to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is sound with light wear and chipping to the extremities. Light sunning to the spine with the odd small closed tear to the panel edges. Two 1" closed tears to the front panel. Internally firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light age toning to the extremities. Very Good Indeed The Albatross hardcover

Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" This unique hand-made book is composed of three Katherine Mansfield short stories with text hand-typed in a small sans serif face illustrated with seven original paintings and drawings. The short stories are 'The Doll's House' 'A Dill Pickle' and 'Psychology'. The typed text averages 36 lines per page. The work is bound in half brown morocco over matching cloth. It is near fine with only the faintest traces of wear. 6 blank 45 pages of text and plates 5 blank broken up into 3 sections each irregularly paginated as 9 pages. Includes 7 original drawings and paintings in watercolor gouache and ink. Though unsigned the art demonstrates considerable skill. Some are abstract some figurative. Two are on red paper one on gray. The remainder of the work is largely on a cream Crane's laid stock. Though Crane's is based in the US their cotton-based rag has long been popular in the UK and Europe. There are no identifying marks in the work and in fact Mansfield's name itself does not appear. A delightful puzzle. We estimate the date to be ca. 1945 to 1955.7 Original Watercolors Etc. NP unknown
