Richard Gimbel a veteran of both world wars was a major book collector. He bought Poe’s Philadelphia home restored it. Filled it with rare books and manuscripts and opened it as a museum. When Gimbel died in 1970 his book collection went to the Free Library of Philadelphia including several Poe manuscripts—this Raven souvenir facsimile was given out as a commemoration of the donation.
