La camera pentagonale), in questo secondo si affronta la stagione dei grandi affreschi fantastici. Una straordinaria avventura tra alcune delle prove più celebri della narrativa d'immaginazione di tutti i tempi ("La caduta della casa degli Usher", "L'uomo della folla", "Il pozzo e il pendolo" e altre), tra gioielli del grottesco/ satirico/comico, fino al sorgere di un nuovo genere narrativo, il poliziesco, con "I delitti della Rue Morgue" e il sequel "Il mistero di Marie Roget". Fa poi uno strano effetto rileggere in tempo di pandemia "La maschera della Morte Rossa", trattata in questo volume, sull'allucinato lockdown del Principe Prospero. Una lettura che illumina lo sviluppo e i temi dei diversi periodi, con cenni alle creazioni artistiche ispirate all'autore più illustrato della letteratura moderna e ovviamente alle sue infinite ricadute pop (film, serie televisive...).
