Light rubbing to front joint of volume I with hinge starting but holding firm. Front hinges of volume II and V strained but firmly held. Head of front hinge of volume VII lightly strained but firmly held. Front hinge of volume VI strained between page vi and following leaf with first gathering tender. One leaf detached and one gathering working loose to volume III. Otherwise firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright with light spotting to fore edge of final few leaves of volume III. Each volume contains an illustrated title page a frontispiece with descriptive tissue guard in-text illustrations and full-page plates with descriptive tissue guards. "The Book-Lovers Eldorado Edition" - limited edition set number 992 of 1050 sets produced. With a Critical Introduction by Charles F. Robinson Professor of English at Dartmouth College. Each volume has a gold illustration of a raven on the front cover.<br /><br />The contents are as follows:<br /> Volume 1 - Poems; Essays on the Poet's Art<br /> Volume 2 - Tales<br /> Volume 3 - Tales<br /> Volume 4 - Tales<br /> Volume 5 - Tales<br /> Volume 6 - Tales<br /> Volume 7 - Criticisms<br /> Volume 8 - Criticisms<br /> Volume 9 - Criticisms<br /> Volume 10 - Miscellany<br /><br />Condition:<br />Light soiling to the covers; the spines have darkened. There is a light stain at the lower-inner cover corners of vol 5. Nice interiors - the pages are mostly clean with only some occasional mild foxing though heavier foxing to the front and rear end papers. Vol 2 has a crack at the rear hinge between the end papers - despite the crack the back cover is still firmly attached. Vols 3 4 5 7 & 8 each have a crack at the front hinge - despite the cracks the front covers are still firmly attached. "The Black Cat" illustration within vol 5 is attached but loose and has pulled from the spine 3/4 of the way up from the bottom edge. The set has a light musty odor.
