Tall 8vo. iv 1-334 pp. illustrated with an engraved frontispiece and 5 steel engraved plates as well as text engravings. Bound in 1/2 leather and marbled paper boards with the title on a black morocco label on the spine in gilt. Moderate rubbing and edge wear to the boards. Blank end papers with some soiling. Hinges tight. Text mostly clean with some light scattered browning. In the summer of 1839 Poe became assistant editor of Burton's Gentleman's Magazine. He published numerous articles stories and reviews enhancing the reputation he had established at The Messenger as one of America's foremost literary critics. <br /> <br /> Contains the First Printing of The Fall Of The House Of Usher; and the following Stories and Poem of Poe's: William Wilson: A Tale; Morella; The Conversation of Eiros and Charmion; The Man That Was Used Up; and To Ianthe In Heaven. The fore-half of pages 327-328 is torn out as is the bottom fore-edge corner of pages 331-332 with loss to text. The final leaf with pages 333-334 is missing.
