1902095718Kelmscott Society / Crowell 1902. hardcover--half leather. Poor/None. AS IS SAVE ME. Eleven physical volumes of seventeen in actuality. Complete set but numbering is confusing because of several combined volumes. Vol. I "Biography Contemporary Notices:--on spine "Biography;" Vol. II "Prose Tales Volume One"--on spine "Tales I"; Vol. III "Prose Tales Volume Two"--on spine "Tales II"; Vol. IV "Prose Tales Volumes Three and Four" and on spine "Tales III-IV;" Vol. VI "Prose Tales Volume Five Poems" from this point on there appear to be two works to a numbered volume and that is to be inferred from numbering that skips the expected next number--"Tales V Poems" on spine; Vol. VIII "Literary Criticism Volumes One and Two"--"Literary Criticism I-II" on spine; Vol. X "Literary Criticism Volumes Three and Four"--"Literary Criticism III-IV" on spine; Vol. XII "Literary Criticism Volumes Five and Six"--"Literary Criticism V-VI" on spine; Vol. XIV "Essays Miscellanies Literati Autography"--same on spine; Vol. XVI "Marginalia Eureka Bibliography"--"Marginalia Eureka" on spine; Vol. XVII "Letters"--"Letters of Poe and His Friends" on t.p. and "Letters" on spine. Clean and unmarked within on strong paper only mildly age-toned and not foxed but there are helpful notations neatly printed in pencil from time to time on the lower margins of a t.p. or in margins of t.o.c.; inlaid is a list of authors who may have influenced Poe. Some volumes have elegant signature of original owner on front end page. Some gutters cracked and unfortunately scotch tape has been used to reinforce the leather spines which have still bright gilt lettering and floral decoration--the tape can be easily removed for skillful repair; some rubbing of leather corners; clean green boards have a little scuffing. Top edges gilt. Lovely frontis. engravings with undamaged tissue guards. Kelmscott Society / Crowell hardcover
