Also present in this bound collection of the 12 issues published in 1844 are Poe's review of Horne's "Orion" and Nathaniel Hawthorne's "Earth's Holocaust" as well as contributions by Longfellow Bryant Lowell etc. Small quarto: iv 296 iv 295 1 pp. with an illustrated title page and 38 mezzotint and engraved plates including 4 in color. In a contemporary one-half black morocco over patterned cloth binding with gilt-stamped titles and decorative borders. Occasional mild foxing and smudging to the contents. Though the hinges are cracked the binding remains quite sound. The cloth is toned and a bit soiled with some fraying along the fore-edge of the rear board. Small nick to the top of the front joint. Die Zeichnungen hat Reinhard Schumann Leipzig-Paunsdorf clichiert. Den Bleisatz in der 1z p Baskerville und der Egyptienne sowie den Buchdruck auf »Countryside« Mineral-Schiefer I oo g/ qm und »Fabriano Cover« dunkelgrau 16o g/ qm besorgte die Offizin Haag-Drugulin Leipzig. Die Handeinbände und Schuber fertigte die Buchbinderei Albrecht Adler Leipzig. Gesamtgestaltung Herstellung und Druckbetreuung: Gert Wunderlich Leipzig. Die einmalige Auflage besteht aus 150 arabisch numerierten von jIRI Salamoun und Gert Wunderlich signierten Exemplaren sowie 40 römisch numerierten und signierten Künstler- bzw. Verlegerexemplaren. Die vier Originallithographien sind blattweise signiert. Though ostensibly a guide to psychic self-healing including the removal of "nonphysical entities" through the application of what Poe refers to as "Dynamic Keys" a good portion of the book in fact consists of testimonials regarding her own abilities as a healer the rest being a perhaps deliberately dizzying amalgam of freewheeling astral quackery.
