Letter from Poe to Brininstool attesting to the accuracy and authenticity of this work is reprinted. "The Only Truthful and Accurate Account of the Killing of This Young Desperado." Poe's story first appeared in Wide World magazine of London in 1919. It was then printed as a first separate by Brininstool in 1922 in a printing thought to be limited to 50-55 copies with no illustrations. This copy is Brininstool's second separate printing to which he added Poe's letter of March 5 1923 3 illustrations and changed "Death" to "Killing" in the title. The first separate is rare and this second separate very scarce. Light wear to the spine ends and covers lightly soiled else a very good copy of this very scarce and important first-hand account. The front cover has an inscription "To D W Greenburg with my compliments AB. Ostrander." On the copyright page is another inscription "To Maj. A.B. Ostrander with regards of E.A. Brininstool Feb 29/24." Greenberg wrote a book on the history of Wyoming. Ostrander was a major in the army and wrote several books about his experiences in the Civil War and time on the Plains. Originally published in 1919 in the Wide Word Magazine. Laid in is the cover of the mailing envelope from Ostrander to Greenberg dated 1925.
