brossura Frutto del contributo di un gruppo internazionale di specialisti, il volume s'interroga sul ruolo del pensiero di Spinoza nella storia e nella teoria delle scienze sociali. Se le scienze sociali si collocano all'interno di una specifica forma di riflessività tipica dei moderni e contemporaneamente offrono un modo attraverso cui trasformare e ridiscutere i fondamenti della loro politica, la scienza spinoziana degli affetti e delle passioni rappresenta allo stesso tempo una chance e una provocazione per questo tipo di sapere. Una chance, nella misura in cui la filosofia di Spinoza può fornire un fondamentale laboratorio teorico per chi s'interroga sul significato di concetti come: norma, rito, relazione, istituzione, collettività, individuo, decisione. Una provocazione, perché una scienza sociale spinoziana sovvertirebbe inevitabilmente alcune delle dicotomie fondamentali del "progetto" delle scienze sociali, come: natura/cultura, individuo/massa, ragione/immaginazione, libertà/necessità. È quindi il legame tra riflessività e politica a essere così risemantizzato, suggerendo che tanto l'insieme delle conoscenze con cui i moderni hanno costituito una scienza di loro stessi, quanto le modalità tramite cui si sono organizzati collettivamente, possano essere ritenute espressione della necessità moderna di connettere la potenza di ciascuno in un ordine cognitivo e politico comune.
