46183Hersham: Privately published 2006. This book I believe will become a classic for the study of Freemasonry not only for the data and conclusions it provides but also for its methodology which might usefully be emulated by anyone wishing to seek out long hidden history previously dismissed as archaic legend. In addition and importantly it reveals that we underestimate the intelligence of our predecessors at our peril; sometimes we have to admit they did know what they were talking about however obtuse their language may have become to the modern ear." Foreword. Michael Baigent. Pp.viii/484 inscribed by the author to front free endpaper. Paperback. VG. Hersham: Privately published, 2006. paperback

1944053400ALS Manuscript 1944. No Binding. Very Good. Original two manuscript ALSs and one manuscript autobiography including 30 lines. 1 p.; 2 p.; 2 p. In Ottoman script. Only one letter with date and letterhead of 'Vecih Bereketoglu'. In his first letter dated April 26 1944 he talks about the painting and oil painting he is working on. He states that he has met Fazil Bey since 1923. Another paper includes a two-pages autobiography. Second ALS includes 19 lines. Hasan Vecih Bereketoglu was a Turkish painter influenced by impressionistic aesthetics who took painting lessons from Halil Pasha and at the Julian Academy in Paris. He is one of the painters of the 1914 Generation. He was the son of Kazasker Bereketzade Cemil Bey. Since his father was a civil servant he completed his primary education in Egypt. He completed high school in Rhodes. He studied at Istanbul Darülfunun Law Faculty. He took his first lessons in painting from Halil Pasha between 1916 and 1920. He became one of the names that supported the establishment of the Fine Arts Union. He was in Paris between 1922-1923 and continued at the Art Academie Julian. Upon his return to Turkey in 1923 he became the Chairman of Kadikoy Halkevi. When he moved to Ankara in 1943 he became the Presidential office manager. During these years he produced still life works. He produced such works by adopting the impressionist understanding of his art life in general. It was seen that he was influenced by Halil Pasha Hikmet Onat and Nazmi Ziya Güran in his works on Istanbul. He was mostly remembered as an 'open-air painter' with his paintings with the views of Fenerbahçe Kurbagalidere and Göksu. In these paintings he did not see the light element as the element that determines the color and presented it with the reflection it's created in nature.

ALS Manuscript unknown

A very good copy of this scarce book. "Thomas Dunckerley was born on 23 October 1724 and died on 19 November 1795. After a naval career Dunckerley became a prominent freemason being appointed Provincial Grand Master of several provinces promoting Royal Arch Masonry introducing Mark Masonry to England and instituting a national body for Templar masonry. This was made possible by an annuity of 100 rising to 800 which he obtained from King George III by claiming to be his illegitimate half brother. Albert Mackey blamed Dunckerley for inventing Royal Arch Masonry and splitting the third degree in the process removing the true word of a mason to the new degree and losing the original "pure" form of the ritual forever. This is unlikely as the Royal Arch degree was worked for at least a decade before Dunckerley's initiation. He published a number of Charges Lectures and songs related to different branches of Freemasonry. Together with Grand Secretary Heseltine and William Preston he campaigned and raised funds for the first dedicated headquarters of English Freemasonry the first Freemason's Hall. During his lifetime he held various high masonic offices: Past Senior Grand Warden of England Provincial Grand Master for the Counties above mentioned and Past Grand Master and Grand Superintendent of Royal Arch Masons over eighteen counties. His major contribution was to the emerging "higher degrees" the Templar Royal Arch Ark Mariner and Mark degrees. Not only did he successfully promote them he organised them standardised their ritual and forced them to keep proper records. For this alone historians of Freemasonry have cause to be grateful to him." - See Wikipedia.
