Prima edizione italiana, completa, stampata a Napoli dallo stampatore partenopeo Giovanni di Simone, di questo scritto del noto filosofo e frate gesuita, Rodolphe du Tertre. L'opera, qui in prima edizione italiana si presenta nella traduzione nella traduzione di un "Duca napoletano". L'opera è una delle più celebri dissertazioni contro gli illuministi e le loro teorie ateiste. Composta sotto forma di dialogo nella prima parte si tratta di Dio e dell'anima degli uomini contro gli atei, nella seconda parte della divinità del cristianesimo contro i deisti, pagani, giudei, maomettani e tutte le false religioni. La storia di Du Tertre e delle sue opere è del tutto particolare. Appartenete all'ordine dei gesuiti, fu nella sua giovinezza un appassionato "Malebranchista" ed "occasionalista" (le cause naturali non sono altro che mere "occasioni" in cui si manifesta la volontà divina). Du Tertre, alla condanna della filosofia di Malebranche da parte dell'Ordine dei Gesuiti, cambiò completamente direzione nei suoi scritti, arrivando a condannare la "nuova filosofia" del Malebranche che tanta parte aveva avuto nello sviluppo di parte delle teorie dell'Illuminismo. Attraverso una condanna della filosofia dell'ex maestro, Du Tertre attacca in verità l'Illuminismo stesso ma anche le altri grandi religioni monoteiste come quella ebraica e quella mussulmana, citandole e richiamandole più volte nell'opera come esempi negativi. Fra i capitoli, particolarmente interessanti sono quelli che rielaborano e confutano il concetto di miracolo e profezia di Malebranche, portando questi due avvenimenti ad esser base stessa della dimostrazione della correttezza e verità della religione cattolica: Della natura del miracolo e delle regole per difendere il vero dal falso; Dimostrazioni regolari della Divinità del Cristianesimo per mezzo de' Miracoli; Delle altre Testimonianze che Dio ha rese alla Divinità del Cristianesimo per mezzo delle Profezie.
