br. Questo libro affronta la cura dell'anima in Socrate e nel mondo greco. Lo fa mettendo in luce l'attualità di tale pratica, la sua capacità di fornire risposte alle problematiche esistenziali che ognuno di noi, prima o poi, si trova a dover affrontare nel corso della propria vita. Muovendo dalle molteplici "cure dell'anima" diffuse nella Grecia antica (nel mito, in Omero, nell'Orfismo, nei Presocratici) viene dimostrato come il passaggio alla nozione di anima a noi comunemente nota, quella di un'anima sede della personalità individuale e morale dell'uomo, avvenga proprio con Socrate. In particolare, viene messo in risalto come questa nozione sia alla base di tutte le discipline che nella cultura occidentale si sono cimentate con il problema dell'anima, della sua felicità e della sua virtù. La cura socratica dell'anima è in sintesi - questa la tesi centrale del libro - radicalmente dialogica. E una terapia che si costituisce come un confronto, come una apertura al mondo in tutte le sue sfaccettature, e che, analogamente a quanto avviene nelle moderne pratiche del counseling filosofico, aiuta a capire i problemi che si incontrano nella vita quotidiana per imparare ad affrontarli in modo creativo e intelligente. Scritto in modo chiaro, il libro si presenta inoltre come una sorta di biblioterapia: la cura socratica dell'anima viene infatti affrontata a partire da un ricco materiale antologico, tratto da alcuni dei più sublimi testi della letteratura filosofica antica.
