Folding engraved map printed on fine ivory linen, size: 21 x 28 ins (approx. 53.0 x 71.0 cms) folding in 36 panels to 6 x 3 ins (approx. 15.o x 7.5 cms), printed surface very lightly browned (rather more heavily so along central fold), a few locations marked with red ink ; original green cloth slip-case framed in blind and lettered in black 'Flexible Map of London' with deckled thumb-hole, a very good, bright copy. 'Captain Bacon may be described as a typical Territorial officer, but it must be added that he is a lucky one. He went to India at the beginning of the War, and to Palestine in early 1917 where he took part in the Third Battle of Gaza and the operations leading to the capture of Jerusalem. This is a fine as new softcover copy still in the original shrinkwrap, unopened. This is a sale catalog, not for an auction, but for something Sotheby's calls a 'selling exhibition', this one organized by the curator Lisa Dennison around the theme of artworks illustrating Dante's Divine Comedy. The show, on view from Sept. 30 through Oct. 19, 2010 included about 75 works dating from the first century to the present and culled from collectors, artists, dealers and foundations. Artists include: Richard Prince, Francis Bacon, Sante d'Orazio, Maurizio Cattelan, George Condo, Damien Hirst, among many others. 12" high X 11" wide. Large heavy book, foreign shipping will be extra. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.
