Countless hours of detailed research supply the foundation for each novel including copious reading internet research and personal visits to battlefields and historic sites. The research provides depth and realism to the stories so that the novels might be as historically accurate and believable as possible. Karl lives with his wife Jackie in Connecticut. His first novel An Eye for Glory was a Publisher's Weekly Top Pick and a Christy Award Finalist. Michael Palmer is a good man a family man. But honor and duty push him to leave his comfortable life and answer the call from Abraham Lincoln to fight for his country. This "citizen soldier" learns quickly that war is more than the battle on the field. Long marches under extreme conditions illness and disillusionment challenge at every turn. Faith seems lost in a blur of smoke and blood and death. Michael's only desire is to kill as many Confederate soldiers as he can so he can go home. It's in the heat of battle at Gettysburg and the solemn aftermath that Michael begins to understand the grave cost of the war upon his soul. Here the journey really begins as he searches for the man he was and the faith he once held so dearly. Using first-hand accounts of the 14th Connecticut Infantry Karl Bacon has crafted a detailed genuine and compelling novel on the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Zondervan paperback

"Bacon's greatest service to anti-Stuart causes. probably written using notes collected by John Selden. Published. to justify the Long Parliament's war against Charles I with a continuation appearing in 1651 the work has been referred to as 'the English Francogallia'. it argued with unrelenting force an anti-royalist ideology of enormous persuasive power. This was the radical ancient constitution which. was first fully articulated during the civil wars by polemicists such as William Prynne and Bacon himself. Early a mainstay of the Long Parliament's cause the ideology consisted of the following propositions: first while government in general was from God the particular form came from the people. Writing a summation of his work in 1651 Bacon re-emphasized the continuity of an elective and contractual monarchy and a parliament which oversaw its proper functioning. With a salute to both past and present he wrote at the very end of his tract: 'as I found this nation a commonwealth so I leave it and so it may be forever'" ODNB. Wing B348B. 1672032862London: Matthew Walbancke. Matthew Walbancke and Henry Twyford 1672 A very good copy in largely contemporary binding. In two parts with separate title pages dated 1647 and 1651 respectively. It is suggested that John Selden 1584-1654 is the true author of the work which was then edited by Nathaniel Bacon - whose name is on the title to the Continuation. However this is still a matter of argument. The work was produced originally as the Civil War came to its close and the Commonwealth was established and is written against the royal prerogative. A 'secret' or 'private' edition was produced in 1672 after the restoration of the monarchy. It is stated that 750 copies were produced and many were burnt or otherwise destroyed. The edition has the 2 works in one is dated as for the 1647/51 edition and there are variants of it. Detailed study Joseph A Dane University of Chicago Press suggests that the remnants of 1672 copies were put back together and sections reprinted later. This copy is clearly a 1672 'secret' edition of which parts are likely to be later printings. According to ESTC this copy has the Title page in setting A; Quires B-C are in setting 2; and Quire D in setting b. The binding is full calf with contemporary boards with blind ruled lines and new matching spine with raised bands and title label. Endpapers have been retained with repair and there are some ink numerals to the front and a latin quotation with initials to the verso of the fep. Contents: title 1647; To Consideration 2pp; Contents listing 4pp; Prologue 4 pp; text pp 1-323 Finis; Table 11pp; Finis; Title 1651; contents 2pp; Preface 20pp; text pp 1-307; table 8pp; Finis. All with decorative headpieces. The paper is lightly toned particularly to edges but the copy is very clean with crisp paper. Book size 20 cm x 15 cm Matthew Walbancke.
