1909583916Cincinnati: The John Church Company 1909. Softcover. Near Fine. First edition. English translation by Emma Lazarus. Folio. Two nested bifoliums making eight pages. Lyrics in German and English. Lightly worn and notched along the folds from once being bound within an album light offsetting to the back cover else near fine. For voice and piano. Plate number 16153-4. The lyrics are from Heine's book Homeward Bound. Outside of Germany Heine was known for pieces just like this his verse set to music though this example set to music by New York organist and composer William G. Hammond is not as well remembered as those by composers like Robert Schumann and Franz Schubert. OCLC locates only a single holding of this song and it appears to be equally scarce in the trade.
