192580132Adelaide: W.K. Thomas . Printers 1925. First Edition. Paperback. Very Good. Adelaide W.K. Thomas . Printers 1925. Octavo xii 155 pages with numerous illustrations after photographs and a folding map 325 × 285 mm. Original wrappers repeating most of the title page details within a decorative border on the front cover; offsetting to the half-title and the adjacent blank from newspaper cuttings no longer present; trifling silverfish nibbling to the last leaf and the final blank; short tear to the leaf facing the folding map expertly repaired the damage caused by the folding map itself; an excellent copy. Wells with his ownership signature on the front flyleaf and a presentation inscription from him to Harold Taylor dated 25 June 1928 on an early blank. The obituary of Francis Harry Wells circa 1864-1937 appears in the Mt Gambier newspaper 'The Border Watch' 14 January 1937. He joined the South Australian Police Force in 1888 and was a mounted constable for 24 years most of them spent in the region covered by this book; he is specifically mentioned on page 107. In 1912 he became the first Registrar of Motor Vehicles in South Australia. W.K. Thomas ... Printers paperback

192010377Philadelphia: John C. Winston Co 1920. Hardcover. Fine/very good . Square octavo 94pp. illustrated by Frederick Richardson. Copyright date of 1920 and the book may have been printed then or perhaps slightly later. A fine fresh copy in the publisher's decorative grey cloth with onlaid illustration. Very gentle foxing to endpapers else lovely. In the rare dust jacket very good or better with foxing to the rear panel and very shallow loss at the crown else quite nicely preserved. Richardson's lively illustrations appear on nearly every page. This particular edition of Peter Rabbit is genuinely uncommon and we cannot trace another copy with the dust jacket in recent commerce. OCLC records just five physical holdings most or all of these are likely missing dust jackets as well. An appealing copy for the Potter completist. John C. Winston Co hardcover
