Tra confessioni, brevi racconti di viaggio, analisi filosofiche, i saggi ruotano attorno ad alcuni temi privilegiati: il grammofono, il telefono e l'inesauribile sì di Molly nell'"Ulisse"; la guerra degli idiomi dichiarata da Dio in "Finnegans Wake"; l'impossibilità di definirsi un esperto di Joyce.
