1930002710New York: Privately Printed 1930. Wilde's fascination with "The Satyricon" is well-known and since the earliest edition of this translation in 1902 his authorship has been accepted. This is a Very Good Plus to Near Fine copy of the First Edition Thus anonymously printed in an edition LIMITED to 1200 copies although this copy has not been numbered. Black cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 236 pages roughly-cut and with most unopened. Tipped-in bookplate of an interesting design on the front paste-down. The dustjacket is also black with gilt title on spine and front cover. Present is the cardboard slipcase black with an orange paper label. The top of the slipcase was separated but has been repaired with Holland tape and touched-up with black paint; although not professional the repair is serviceable. This is a rather nicely-done edition and typical of the popular mildly erotic by current standards editions that were produced during the first half of the Twentieth Century. This essay by Wilde was first written very early in his career in 1879 but the manuscript was considered lost until after his death.
