First Edition of Voltairiana selected and translated by Mary Julia Young one of Dale Spender's 'Mothers of the Novel.' A prolific author of fiction and poetry Young was a striking example of an independent professional female writer of the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Taken from a letter to the Royal Literary Fund 28 March 1808 by Ms. Young "melange which was thrown together at the express desire of my Publisher and I hope Voltaire has not suffer'd by my choice of selection and omissions."
