Detailed historical studies into the lives of Charles XII King of Sweden from 1697 to 1718 and Peter I better known as Peter the Great the Tsar of all Russia from 1682 and the first Emperor of all Russia from 1721 until his death in 1725. Written by François-Marie Arouet a French Enlightenment writer philosopher satirist and historian known by his nom de plume Voltaire. Famous for his wit criticism of Christianity and of slavery and as advocate of freedom of speech freedom of religion and separation of church and state. Translated by Tobias George Smollett a Scottish writer and surgeon. In the original tooled calf. Externally smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the boards. Lacking the spine label. Internally firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. Further spotting and the odd small mark to the endpapers.
