"Carl Gustaf Löwenhielm (1790-1838) served as Sweden's ambassador to the Sublime Port between 1824 and 1827. Traveling throughout the Ottoman Empire, he produced about 250 paintings, covering a wide range of themes. This book presents about half of Löwenhielm's pictures, some selected from five sketch books, which are kept in the Uppsala University Library. Paintings kept in the Stockholm Museum of Fine Arts as well as in private collection are also included. Each picture is accompanied with written comments highlighting their documentary as well as artistic value. Through these almost two hundred years old pictures from the Ottoman Empire, now presented for the first time, the reader can catch a unique glimpse of "Turkey, as it was".".Contents: C. G. An artist's journey from Istanbul to London 1855.: Preziosi was an Orientalist painter who was passionately in love with the Bosphorus and worked in watercolour and pen and ink. Amadeo Preziosi's paintings were exhibited in Paris and London in 1858, 1863 and 1867. For some years he was court painter to Sultan Abdul Hamid II, and today examples can be seen in the Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture, Topkapi Palace, the Naval Museum and several private collections.

Veuillez agreer, Excellence, l'assurance de ma tres haute consideration. Le Directeur Generale de le Presse.". Vedat Nedim Tör was born in the city of Istanbul in 1897. He was the son of Ahmet Nedim Servet Tör. He attended Galatasaray High School and completed his higher education at the University of Berlin. Having taken his Ph.D. in economics, he returned to Turkey. He served as the director at the Ankara State Radio and Directorate General of Press and Information. His writings were published in the newspapers Cumhuriyet and Vatan. Vedat Nedim, among the founders of Istanbul and Ankara State Radios, also served as a culture and art consultant for Yapii Kredi Bank and Akbank. Among the stage plays he scripted were Issizler (1924), Kör (1935), Degisen Adam (1941), Hep ve Hiç (1951), and Halici Kiz (1975). Many of his theatre scripts were staged by several theater companies. Further, his play Halici Kiz was adapted to the silver screen by Muhsin Ertugrul in 1953. Vedat Nedim Tör passed away on April 8, 1985, in Istanbul.

Very Good Very Good English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. 8 volumes set: ([114], 2809 p)., b/w ills. Cr. 8vo. (20 x 14 cm). In Turkish. First Edition. Memoirs of Celal Bayar was Turkish statesman. The son of a religious leader and teacher, Bayar joined the nationalist movement after the Young Turk revolution. Kemal Atatürk's colleague after World War I, he held several ministerial positions (1921-37); he supervised the Greek-Turkish exchange of population (1923). In 1937 he became premier, but he resigned the post after Atatürk's death (1938). In 1946 he founded with Adnan Menderes and others the Democratic party, which came to power in 1950. He then became president of the republic and was reelected in 1954 and 1957. Ousted in 1960 by Cemal Gürsel, he was tried for violating the constitution and sentenced to death. The sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in 1961. Bayar was released because of ill health in 1964 and pardoned in 1966".
