Rara edizione originale. Leggero foxing alla brossura, altrimenti ottimo esemplare. Firma di possesso al piatto superiore. Opuscolo assai raro stampato su carta colorata, che accoglie l’edizione originale della poesia «La notte di Natale» (inc.: «Sopra la terra le squille suonano»). Alle pagine centrali è riprodotto in fac-simile il manoscritto, all’ultima è trascritto il testo. La poesia entrerà a far parte della seconda edizione delle «Poesie varie» come componimento di apertura. La plaquette è dedicata «[...] ai marinai e soldati in Tripolitania perchè nel Natale che trascorrono in guerra giunga loro – con la voce del poeta d’Italia – la parola buona della patria lontana». La pubblicazione fu voluta dal direttore della «Rivista marittima» che chiese a Pascoli di scrivere una «parola di conforto e di esortazione della patria ai marinai e soldati impegnati in Africa nel periodo natalizio» [verificare citazione]. Se ne riscontrano solo 5 esemplari in Iccu.

Edizione originale. Numero 8 del 25 luglio 1868 e tutto il pubblicato dal numero 20 del 10 ottobre 1868 al numero 45 del 3 aprile 1869 della prima serie di «La Lanterne par Henri Rochefort». Esemplari con chiari segni del tempo, qualche strappo e mancanza alle brossure ma nel complesso in stato più che buono. Quando il giornalista Henri Rochefort venne licenziato da «Le Figaro» per alcuni articoli duramente critici nei confronti del regime imperiale di Napoleone III, la storia di «La Lanterne» ebbe inizio. Per nulla colpito da quell’allontanamento, Rochefort cominciò piuttosto a ideare questi volumetti satirici con formato 15 x 10 e la caratteristica copertina arancione destinati a circolare non soltanto in territorio francese dal maggio 1868 alla fine del 1869. Inizialmente stampata a Parigi, il numero 11 dell’8 agosto costò a Rochefort una pesante condanna, il bando definitivo della rivista dalla Francia e la fuga a Bruxelles per evitare il carcere. Qui - ospite di Victor Hugo, esule in Belgio ormai da molti anni - riprese le pubblicazioni che continueranno a raggiungere clandestinamente la Francia fino al termine del 1869. Una seconda serie di «La Lanterne» - questa volta stampato a Ginevra - vedrà la luce dal 1874 al 1876.
