Most certainly Ralph Ingersoll 1900-1985 an American writer editor and publisher from whom Simenon bought Shadow Rock Farm in Lakeville Connecticut in 1950. The town became the background for his 1952 novel La Mort de Belle. A very good copy of one of Simenon's non-Maigret novels "a book of remarkable pity and understanding". Octavo. Publisher's blue cloth titles in red on spine. With dust jacket. Light discolouration to spine and boards edges. A very good copy in the bright dust jacket a few small tears and nicks to edges a little rubbed traces of a tape repair to bottom edge of front panel damp stain to verso of spine and front panel. hardcover

No inscriptions. Clean interior. Spine tips lightly pushed and the merest hint of offsetting to both sets of end-papers. Overall a near fine copy. The rare dustwrapper is near VG with loss at the spine ends just affecting the lettering with a slither of loss to the bottom edge of the front panel and with a chip to the left-hand corner of the back panel affecting the blurb. The spine of the dustwrapper is mildly faded but with the lettering still clear. Two short stories: 'The Lock at Charenton' and 'Maigret Returns'. A scarce wartime Maigret first edition.
