Internally clean front endpapers slightly browned but the text block remains otherwise in excellent clean condition. Very good. With a Preface by Anne Thackeray Ritchie. Illustrated by Hugh Thomson. This 'New Edition' is the first with all Thomson�s pen and ink illustrations printed with partial colour-tinting MacMillan first published an edition with Thomson's uncoloured pen and ink illustrations in 1891 and the 1898 edition had previously included 40 of the illustrations printed in colour. Imprint to verso of title page reads: 'Reprinted with Coloured Illustrations October 1898. New Edition 1907.' This is also the first edition to feature the binding design by A.A. Gilt is in good condition and the front is especially bright. Front pastedown carries prize dedication from the F.C. Normal School Glasgow under the Head Mastership of George S. Brown for the First Prize for Domestic Economy Session 1898-1899. Title Page tissue guarded. 16 b/w illustrations by Robinson. Book has top edge gilt fore edges rough cut and is slightly cocked.
