It is the work done with Leopold Infeld and Banash Hoffmann on the N-body problem of motion. In these papers the gravitational field is no longer treated as external. Instead it and the motion of its singular sources are treated simultaneously. Anew approximationscheme is introduced in which the fields are no longer necessarily weak but in which the source velocities are small compared with the light velocity . The equations obtained have found use in situations where Newtonian interaction must be included. 'These equations are widely used in analyses of planetary orbits in the solarsystem. For example the Cal Tech Jet Propulsion Laboratory uses them in modified form to calculate ephmerides for high-precision tracking of planets and spacecraft."Pais "Subtle is the Lord" p. 290-91."The problem of the equation of motion of bodies is the following. The 1916 theory had a classical structure in the sense that there were both field equations the curvature of space-time is determined by the mass and motion of bodies in space-time and equations of motion of bodies the world line of small mass is a geodesic. Are these two statements really separate If the field equations were linear they indeed would be. They are not linear however and Einstein showed in the papers offered that if matter is represented by a point singularity of the metric field these singularities are located on world lines that are geodesics of space-time provided its metric satisfies the equation of general relativity."DSB.Weil: 202 a. 295 both with an asterix denoting a major paper. - Boni: 236 a. 236.1. </em> unknown

194347584Camp McCain: n/a 1943. Original document. Loose leaf. near fine. Original one page letter 11 x 8 1/2" in original POW Camp envelop 4 x 6". Handwritten letter by Willibald Hoffmann a Jewish soldier in the army of Nazi Germany who was taken prisoner and held in the POW Camp McCain in Mississippi USA. Written on the official US POW mail-form of the camp dated September 13 1943 signed Willibald Hoffmann plus postmarked official envelope with "Prisoner Of War" printed on front and US Censor stamps examined by 763 on front and back. Prisoner of War Camp stamp dated 13th of September 1943 on back. With signed English translation of the original letter attached.<br /> <br /> There were thousands of men of Jewish descent Mischling and hundreds more of what the Nazis called "full Jew" serving in the army while their families were exterminated at the same time causing psychological trauma for most of them while keeping it a secret for the rest of their lives. <br /> <br /> The American author Bryan Mark Rigg has documented the Jewish ancestry of more than 1200 of Hitler's soldiers including two field marshals and ten generals some of whom were awarded the Knight's Cross Nazi Germany's highest military honor. Hitler himself had signed declarations that these soldiers were of German blood. These soldiers often believed that they were helping to save the lives of Jewish relatives. "Many while they were fighting their parents were being deported anyway." Rigg. Some 2300 relatives of a group of 1000 soldiers documented by Riggs were killed by the Nazis. See Bryan Mark Rigg "Lives of Hitler's Jewish Soldiers: Untold Tales of Men of Jewish Descent Who Fought for the Third Reich. University Press of Kansas 2009<br /> <br /> Hoffmann in his letter September 13 1943 to Rabbi Max Koppel writes:<br /> <br /> "Dear Doctor You'll be astonished by my lines because I've lost every connection to my relatives who as far as I know are now in America. That is why I am approaching you confidentially with the request to help me in this matter. My father's name is Samuel Felix and comes from Austria-Hungary where we owned a large dye and weaving factory. My father has lived last in Cologne at the Rhine where he owned a textile wholesale. Due to his Jewish faith the events in Germany forced him to flee. I myself took on another name. Maybe I could ask you to visit me here or to send a representative since it is impossible in my situation to convey everything to you by letter. To facilitate this a permission has to be obtained from Washington. Hoping to get a confirmation of receipt of my letter. With sincere regards Willibald Hoffmann"<br /> <br /> POW Camp McCain was established in the Granada district of Mississippi USA in 1942 originally as a training camp for American infantry bound to join the fighting in Europe. During the war more that 7700 German prisoners of war were held in the camp. They were put to work in the cotton fields of the Mississippi delta. The camp operated until October of the year 1944.<br /> <br /> The addressee Rabbi Max Koppel was born in Mönchengladbach Germany in 1905. A graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary of Breslau JTS and the universities of Breslau and Würzburg he served as a Rabbi in Hirschberg today Jelenia Góra in Poland and Berlin and was an educator at the Joseph Lehmann school of the Reform community in Berlin. In 1937 he immigrated o the USA and was one of the founders of the Congregation Emes Wodzedek in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan.<br /> <br /> WITH ADDED<br /> <br /> Neuda Fanny. CONDITION: All in Very Good to Very Good Plus condition showing rubbing wear and light to moderate soiling to covers; and several with the original string ties still attached. NICE SET. IMPORTANT NOTE ON THE NUMBER OF VOLUME IN THE SET: Although Parr & Badger cite 27 booklets there is an error in their calculation: There are 5 volumes in the series entitled Kampf im Osten The War in the East; these are numbered 1 through 5. In the end notes of Parr/Badger The Photobook: A History vol. III 'Kampf im Osten' is listed as one title and then each of the subtitles of the five volumes is listed separately making for one extra title. Thus mistakenly the total number of titles as stated in the text and bibliographic description is accidentally bumped up to 27. The actual number of booklets in the set is in fact 26 as shown by pictures on p. 23 of Parr & Badger Vol. 3.<br /> <br /> Included in Parr/Badger The Photobook: A History vol. III. Parr & Badger write "The Winterhilfswerk Winter Relief Fund was an annual fund-raising drive by the Nazis - its slogan 'none shall starve or freeze' - to get Germany through the winter months from October to March. It ran from 1933 to 1945 and was designed to provide food fuel and other items for poorer citizens. As charities do today small gifts were given out to donors.among them was this series of miniature propaganda bookks published by Heinrich Hoffman Hitler's official photographer and approved publisher. They were essentially receipts to show one had donated and with the attached string could be worn on the lapel to make it absolutely clear. Some have intimated that the books were also hung from Christmas trees as decorations although this is not absolutely certain and given as 'stocking-filler' presents. In totalitarian states like Nazi Germany where the leader is seen as the 'Father' of the nation the propaganda machine's ultimate aim is to capture the children indoctrinate them and perpetuate the state ideology. 4695Hoffmann draws two sketches to explain his instructions to Wilhelm Jonasch 1892-1961 artist and designer known for the textiles he created for the Weiner Werkstatte. Hoffmann asks Jonasch to take a box which can be found in a cabinet to a meeting. To be clear which cabinet Jonasch should find the box in Hoffmann draws both cabinet and box. Signed in full in the letter and signed "Professor Hoffmann" on the envelope. With such clear direction one would imagine Jonasch delivered the box to the meeting. unknown books

Ad 1 with an engraved folding map 18.5 x 27 cm of Memmingen and the Bosserhard by J.F. Rupf and with an elaborate woodcut headpiece with a rising phoenix and a factotum in the form of a person with a shield and spear. 2 works in 1 volume. 2 70 20; 24 pp. Two rare 18th-century dissertations "Jagdrechtliche Hochschulschrifte" from the University of Tübingen on the subject of hunting in Memmingen and the Bosserhard or Booser Hart the general area around Memmingen between the rivers Iller and Gunz. Free hunting or stalking was permitted in this area based on a 400-year-old hunting law unlike other areas in the German states where one needed authorisation and/or a permit to hunt from law enforcement or the landowner.Ad 1: First edition of a very valuable dissertation for the history of hunting law in and around Memmingen. It discusses the hunting rights in the region of Swabia in the electorate Kurfürstentum of Bavaria Germany. While Memmingen is located on the edge of Swabia these rights and laws still applied to the general area and the Bosserhard in particular. The appendix presents ten rules instructions protocols and/or ordinances regarding hunting activity in the area from the 16th to 18th centuries. The book also includes a beautifully detailed map by Johann Friedrich Rupf showing Memmingen and surroundings including the outline of the Bosserhard.Sayler's dissertation was republished as: "Dissertatio XX" with the same title in Thesaurus rerum Suevicarum seu dissertationum selectarum volumen quartum 1760.Ad 2: First edition of an early 18th-century dissertation by Johann Erhard Kessel giving an overview of historical free hunting rights in the Bosserhard surrounding the city of Memmingen in the region of Swabia in present-day Bavaria Germany. The city and its surroundings officially became a part of the electorate and later kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century at which point all free hunting rights were terminated and abolished. Many conferences were held to evaluate the rights and restrictions of free hunting in the Bosserhard and surrounding area during the 16th century and thereafter and Kessel discusses this development and evolution of the free hunting rights in the region of Swabia. The present copy comes from the famous hunting library Bibliotheca Tiliana of Kurt Lindner 1906-1987 a German entrepreneur bibliophile and scholar on the subject of hunting. With the brown and gold bookplate of the "Bibliotheca Tiliana" Kurt Lindner's famous hunting library on the front paste-down and a small stamp of the same library on the back of the title page of ad 1 and on the last page of ad 2. Texte meist in Deutsch einige ganz wenige in Latein.
