Volume three with 20pp. publisher's catalog. Each volume with an engraved frontispiece engraved vignette title page and a regular title page illustrated. Dates are noted on the engravings from May 1798-Jan. 1799. Dryden was an English poet dramatist and literary critic who dominated the literary scene of his day. It became known as the Age of Dryden. He later did translations for publisher Jacob Tonson. The entire set which was issued by C. Cooke in the late 18th century was for the serious reader. The books were small enough to be kept in a coat pocket or lady's purse. Bound in full contemporary calf lettered and decorated in gilt labels mostly worn off early glue repair to upper joints not professionally but work fine light damp staining to the first few leaves of volume two.
