New English Paperback. Large 8vo. (23 x 23 cm). In English and Turkish. 113 p., color and b/w ills., 2 folding plates, (400 x 20 cm. and 174 x 20 cm.). Long stories: Istanbul in the panoramas of Melling and Dunn.= Uzun öyküler: Melling ve Dunn'in panoramalarinda Istanbul. [In special case]. Long stories opened a visual window to the city of emperors and sultans, a micro-level study of history that focused on the historical topography of the city. The exhibition was curated by Ekrem Isin with M. Baha Tanman acting as project consultant. ??Panoramas constitute the visual narratives of a city. Emperors and sultans cast their shadows in the images stretching before our eyes; the symbols of power piercing the sky are surrounded by the cultural texture of daily life, as well as the city's architectural composition and nature. The raison d'être of a panorama is to bear witness to the urban image that appears as a protagonist on the stage of history, set against the civilizational décor that the eye perceives at first sight. Long Stories: Istanbul in the Panoramas of Melling and Dunn was not only a visual feast, but also a historical survey, which compelled viewers to reconsider the identity of a city that left its mark on the art of panoramic engraving.

A study on Gentile Bellini, (1430-1507), was an Italian painter of the school of Venice. He came from Venice's leading family of painters, and at least in the early part of his career was more highly regarded than his younger brother Giovanni Bellini, the reverse of the case today. From 1474 he was the official portrait artist for the Doges of Venice, and as well as his portraits he painted a number of very large subjects with multitudes of figures, especially for the Scuole Grandi of Venice, wealthy confraternities that were very important in Venetian patrician social life. In 1479 he was sent to Constantinople by the Venetian government when the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II requested an artist; he returned the next year. Thereafter a number of his subjects were set in the East, and he is one of the founders of the Orientalist tradition in Western painting. His portrait of the Sultan was also copied in paintings and prints and became known all over Europe.

According to the "Great Man Theory", leaders are born with a set of specific skills and traits that makes an individual destined for a leadership position. Also known as a trait perspective to leadership, it suggests that certain individuals have special innate or inborn characteristics or qualities that differentiates them from non-leaders. Specifically, these characteristics were believed to include height, weight, appearance, intelligence, disposition and others. Furthermore, charismatic and inspirational leaders instil faith in a better future for the followers in terms of their self-expression, self-evaluation, and self-consistency. The history of Ottomans is complicated and complex in terms of its emperors from the beginning to the end, in addition to severe relations with Europe and Asia. In this sense, especially the ascension period constitutes great importance; because of the fact that the six emperors of the period turned the Ottoman State into an "Empire" with their individual traits and acts. Therefore, it is worth to consider them as "great men" and evaluate them in this frame in order to construe the claim. It is expected that this book sheds light to the future researches in terms of evaluating both the emperors of Ottoman Empire and the other World emperors in terms of great man theory.
