Folds into original blue cloth covers blocked in blind the upper cover with publisher and title in gilt. A fine copy of this attractive map of Iowa from the early years of its settlement this second edition shows the rapid development within the state and is the first edition to include Sioux City and many proposed railroad routes.<br/> <br/>This large and colourful map of Iowa shows the state divided into numerous counties all within nine land districts with the sites of the land offices identified in each. Issued to promote settlement in the state the map includes an advertisement in the upper left corner for Henn Williams and Co.: "dealers in land land warrants & exchange . special attention given to Location of Land the sale and loan of Warrants and to the collecting & remitting of sight and time bills. Investments made in any part of Iowa." Besides locating numerous towns and river systems the state's burgeoning railroad system is shown with many proposed routes depicted across the state by means of dotted lines. This is the second edition of the map after the first of 1854 but apparently printed from a new plate to incorporate the rapid growth. A View of Old London as it Appeared in 1560. has no author credited and was published in 1851. 44pp with folding engraved panoramic view of London in 1560 as frontispiece plus 17 engravings in text 3 of them whole page. The second book is London Before the Fire of 1666 with an Historical Account of the Parish the Ward and the Church of St. Giles without Cripplegate by William Miller published in 1867. 92pp. With folding engraved illustration as frontispiece. The third book is Sketches of the Tower of London as a Fortress a Prison and a Palace and a Guide to the Armories. No author credited. 48pp. With folding engraved plan of the Tower as frontispiece and engraving on title page. A Good copy overall. Covers are very good with light wear to edges. The contents are well bound. Heavy browning to endpapers most pages clean though the third book has some browning with the title page and frontis heavily browned and with some tears to edges. The firm is replying to a note of Browning’s of 7 July 1891 ‘desiring our assent to the separate publication in book form of your Articles from the Encylopaedia Britannica. on Dante & Goethe’. They ‘have pleasure in complying therewith on the usual understanding that the sources of the articles is duly acknowledged & a copy of the book sent to us when published’. The Dante and Goethe books based on Browning’s articles in the ninth edition of Encyclopaedia Britannica were published in London by Swan Sonnenschein & Co in 1891 and 1892 respectively. 10 July 1891; on letterhead of A. & C.
