Juni 1740 in Paris; † 2. Dezember 1814 in Charenton-Saint-Maurice bei Paris) war ein französischer Adeliger aus dem Haus Sade. Er wurde bekannt durch seine gewaltpornographischen Romane, wovon er die meisten während jahrzehntelanger Aufenthalte in Gefängnissen und Irrenanstalten schrieb. Sie zeichnen sich dadurch aus, dass die Handlung durch lange philosophische Passagen radikal-atheistischer und materialistischer Konzeption unterbrochen wird. Diese philosophischen Diskurse dienen zum einen der Rechtfertigung des grausamen Plots und zum anderen der Propagierung seiner libertären Ansichten. Der deutsche Psychiater Richard von Krafft-Ebing prägte in seiner im Jahr 1886 publizierten Abhandlung Psychopathia sexualis nach Sade den medizinischen Fachausdruck Sadismus, der eine sexuelle Deviation beschreibt, die darin besteht, dass ein Mensch Lust oder Befriedigung erlebt, wenn er andere Menschen demütigt oder quält. Die Leidenschaft des Marquis galt indes weniger seinen amoralischen Erzähltexten, denen er seinen zweifelhaften Ruhm verdankte, als dem Theater "als moralischer Anstalt". … (wiki)
