199928914Philadelphia:: University of Pennsylvania Press 1999. First Printing of the First US Edition. A Fine tight copy in a Fine dust jacket. Between the two world wars at a time when both sexual repression and sexual curiosity were commonplace New York was the center of the erotic literature trade in America. The market was large and contested encompassing not just what might today be considered pornographic material but also sexually explicit fiction of authors such as James Joyce Theodore Dreiser and D.H. Lawrence; mail-order manuals; pulp romances; and "little dirty comics." Bookleggers and Smuthounds vividly brings to life this significant chapter in American publishing history revealing the subtle symbiotic relationship between the publishers of erotica and the moralists who attached them—and how the existence of both groups depended on the enduring appeal of prurience. 6929New York: Mark Litho . First Edition. Original wraps. Very Good. 5 1/4 X 7 3/4 Inches. 16 PP. "Why is it that the great portion of the members of our society cannot accept the fact that men and women need not be of the same race in order to love one another"

Original early 1970's erotic literature magazine that features a B/W portrait of a well-built black male and white female Gene Bilbrew style on the cover but the text has little to do with interracial relations at all. Text written in the third person as supposedly relayed to a doctor and/or psychiatrist. Includes three supposed interview summaries detailing sexual situations that don't seem to have anything to do with the cover or the random B/W photos in the text of a black and white woman making love. This was either produced by Dr. Michael Umbers or Kilgore Trout. Obviously a sham publication looking to sell sex of any kind to a mature audience as sale to minors is prohibited as stated on the front cover.

There is only ONE listing on OCLC Howard University. Howard lists the author as Michael Umbers. Makes sense as research reveals Dr. Michael Umbers was the author of at least one other sleaze novel published by Star Distributers in 1972. The Village Voice records an interview with Umbers in 1971 in which he shares that he sells "flesh" lit published by Mark Litho and sees himself a Gay Liberator publisher real estate tycoon and falsely accused felon who was arrested on a trumped-up white slavery charge in Canada. Just going to leave all that there.

Original stapled wraps in excellent condiiton. Original price of $7.50 WOW on front cover. Mark Litho (?) unknown
