Beau livre d'artiste en bel état signé par l'éditeur et Paul JOUVE.- Bibliographie: Marcilhac, Paul Jouve, p. 381.- Exposition: De Balzac à Paul Jouve, "Une passion dans le désert", Musée de la maison de Balzac, Paris, 4 octobre 2007- 6 janvier 2008."Une passion dans le désert" est un texte méconnu de BALZAC, une courte nouvelle, publiée avec un autre roman "Les Chouans". Cette nouvelle évoque "l'amour" d'un soldat napoléonien pour Mignonne, une panthère rencontrée dans le désert lors de la campagne d'Égypte. Cette nouvelle à sa publication provoqua quelques commentaires compte tenu des "troublants" sous entendus qui existent dans le texte.

The book consists of a political tableau of Europe under Louis XIII tempered with examples borrowed from antiquity one notices a curious table of contents. The author establishes therein the portrait of a prince endowed with all the qualities of the 17th-century honest man whom some will designate as being a flattering portrait of Louis XIII. The work is reputed remarkable for the clarity of its language and the perfection of its eloquence. Tchemerzine I 359. The work was censored 3 years after its publication by the Sorbonne. The preface mentions the author's age 91 years and his manuscripts which he entrusted to a person to whom he was obligated and who wished to publish them.
