25307<div id="publiIntroduction" data-mce-fragment="1"><div id="intro-5855-en" class="tabContent ltr" data-mce-fragment="1" xml:lang="en" lang="en"><p data-mce-fragment="1">Exposition au musée du quai Branly-Jacques Chirac, du 8 février au 15 mai 2022.</p><p data-mce-fragment="1">Vers le tout début du XVII<sup data-mce-fragment="1">e</sup>siècle en Amérique du Nord-Est, alors que la France étend son emprise coloniale dans la région, de petites perles cylindriques en coquillage, les<em data-mce-fragment="1">wampums</em>– ou «porcelaines» pour les Français - commencent à être utilisées comme objets d’échange entre Amérindiens et Européens. Chez les nations autochtones, le<em data-mce-fragment="1">wampum</em>a un usage social et politique bien établi, ornant souvent les objets de prestige. Certaines nations iroquoiennes en font des colliers tissés et des ficelles de perles qui servent à matérialiser la parole donnée. Dans un monde de l’oralité où l’écrit n’a pas encore sa place, les nations européennes se plient aux protocoles autochtones, et adoptent ces «perles qui parlent» pour négocier alliances et traités. Ainsi débute une histoire vieille de plus de quatre siècles au cours de laquelle les sens et valeurs du<em data-mce-fragment="1">wampum</em>évoluent au gré des bouleversements politiques et culturels qui affectent la région et mettent à mal l’autonomie amérindienne.</p><p data-mce-fragment="1">Cette exposition part sur les traces des exemplaires de<em data-mce-fragment="1">wampums</em>conservés en France, parmi les plus anciens au monde, et revient sur leurs significations et leurs usages à travers le temps. Le dialogue engagé à cette occasion entre les collaborateurs abénaki, français, huron-wendat et haudenosaunee (iroquois) revisite les relations issues de la rencontre de deux mondes, les traditions autochtones, l’adaptation européenne à ces traditions, la mythologie iroquoienne et le monde amérindien aux XVII<sup data-mce-fragment="1">e</sup>-XIX<sup data-mce-fragment="1">e</sup> siècles, ainsi que le rôle des<em data-mce-fragment="1">wampums</em>dans nos sociétés contemporaines, objets de musées mais aussi de créations artistiques, des cérémonies et des revendications autochtones d’aujourd’hui.</p></div></div> Paris, 2021 Musée du Quai Branly Jacques Chirac. 168 p., nombreuses planches, broché. 24 x 29,5
