All 8vo except the last 3 Volumes - 62/63/64 which are near 4to size but with varying widths the earlier ones are fatter! All uniformly bound in Dark Bluish/Black Half Leather/blue cloth with bright gilt lettering/titling to the spine. Volumes 7 and 8-9 have quite a lot of rubbing/chafing to the spine with one spine re-glued - all the rest are near VG. An Ex- REFERENCE library label each with a 'Discard' stamp on the front pastedown of all 62 vols but o/w with minimal internal markings/stamps. Full of interesting social source material but also lots of articles of interest to the bibliophile. For an Institution the vols already have their dewey designation on the spines. Please ask re- postage as 62 volumes CANNOT be posted for the standard rate. Or if interested in part-set . Interior has attractive marbled boards that are bright. Interior pages have only very slight tanning and odd spots of small foxing but overall the book is neat firm and clean inside. A "Bloomfield" armorial bookplate pasted to inside of front cover. Great example of this almost 200 year old book. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Charles Knight, London hardcover

In the original red blue and white pictorial light card or thick paper wrappers. A light corner crease to the top front corner and a little rubbing to the very bottom of the spine. Some pretty light patchy spotting to the Darton books advert on the rear cover only. Overall in REMARKABLE CONDITION for an ephemeral children's book this early. 15 pp including the insides of the covers. With delightful nine HAND-COLOURED wood engravings including two vignettes all presumably engraved by Calvert but his name only appears clearly on the front cover as Sculptor. No note of the illustrator - but very 'typical ' of the period. A Very Good Plus to Near Fine copy. Published by Darton and Co. Holborn Hill London as one of their charming early books for children making Moral Tales fun! Possibly one of a series in this 'Fun for Little Folks' range Delightful and scarce! Elizabeth von Arnim 1866Ã1941 an English novelist born Mary Annette Beauchamp in Australia married a German aristocrat and her earliest works are set in Germany. Her first marriage made her Countess von Arnim-Schlagenthin and her second Elizabeth Russell Countess Russell. After her first husband's death she had a three-year affair with the writer H. G. Wells then later married Frank Russell elder brother of the Nobel prize-winner and philosopher Bertrand Russell. She was a cousin of the New Zealand-born writer Katherine Mansfield. Though known in early life as May her first book introduced her to readers as Elizabeth which she eventually became to friends and finally to family. Her writings are ascribed to Elizabeth von Arnim.1 She used the pseudonym Alice Cholmondeley only for a novel Christine published in 1917. William Heinemann hardcover

Green cloth with ornate gilt margins to boards gilt titles and decoration to spine and upper board. All edges gilt. Spine has at some point been professionally rebacked. Bookbinders label of Hanbury and Simpson to front pastedown Somerhill Library bookplate to front free endpaper. Tissue guard to frontispiece plate heavily browned and torn no tissue guards to other plates if issued. Some thumbing and pencil marks and indentations in a juvenile hand interspersed throughout the textblock. Some light spotting throughout. Trace of old tape residue to gutter next to the first page of the preface. Cloth worn to extremities with loss to the corners generally bright. Some small closed tears to some pages some old tape reinforcement to some of the prelims. Aside from these faults a very good copy of a damned scarce title. A rare book only three other copies listed on COPAC at Oxford Cambridge and the British Library. A curious volume containing a collection of short essays etc. on Tonbridge Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells. Chapters include a poem entitled "The Death of the Tonbridge Soldier on the Heights of Sebaststopol" "an Adventure in Knole Park" and "The Subterranean Passages of Tonbridge Castle London: Kent and Co, Tonbridge: Richard Ware, n.d. 1760005142np London 1760. Copper Engraving. Very Good. Copper engraving on laid paper. Measurement border to border: 22.5 x 17.3 cm. 8.9" x 6.3". Sheet measurements: 30 x 20.7 cm. 11.8" x 8.1" Condition: a mild crease which begins just above the "C" in Southern Ocean and winds its way northeast always staying in the empty void of the Southern Ocean terminating just below Ascension Island; 1 cm. closed tears at both top and bottom edges contained within margins never invading borders; mild foxing in spots and a faint offsetting from what looks to be another map most likely: Good-to-Very Good. A handsome map which we greatly appreciate hasn't had to endure any later hand coloring. Here's a 2001 description from Old World Auctions: "Charming small map of the continent with a decorative cartouche and compass rose. Considerable detail along the coasts with Indian names in the interior. Part of the African continent is shown at right and the Solomon Islands are shown in the Pacific. Several discoveries are noted by name and date." <br/><br/> unknown

Tinted lithographs of Swiss views 20 most around Lake Geneva & Mont Blanc but also Berne Thun Chute du Rhein etc. some with Lithographer named Th. Muller. Oblong quarto 288 x 215mm brown blind-stamped cloth with gilt title & Swiss emblem tips worn/gilt dulled 20 plates mounted at spine only a few blank guards present. Image size 180x118mm with publisher Briquet et Fils and printer's name Lemercier and in one or two cases Th. Muller lithographer credited below is title of view and all surrounded by ruled line about 1cm. from the image. Some edges dusty and a bit tatty but only edges affected. Fine coloured lithographic plates each with beautifully printed sharp detail. This collection appears to be complete - if all images had guard-sheets width of spine could fit more. Lithography well printed by Lemercier an established Parisian printer Briquet who sold these view-books was based in Geneva but later had ties with publishers in other Swiss cities British Museum has almost identical copy with 6 more views ref. 1958-0712-3024-1-26. Two fold out plates one the order of the battle of the confederate armies 18th July 1705 the second a plan of the town and castle of Nice. A very good copy in a recent binding of half dark brown calf. Spine with raised bands the compartments ruled and lettered in gilt marbled paper on boards.
