The Burns Memorial Catalogue List of Subscribers for March 1896 loosely inserted. The Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts RGI is an independent organisation in Glasgow founded in 1861 which promotes contemporary art and artists in Scotland. It is the third largest organization of its kind in the United Kingdom. The Institute organizes the largest and most prestigious annual art exhibition in Scotland - open to all artists and with some 17 awards of cash prizes on offer. The centenary of Robert Burns death on 21st July 1896 saw national celebrations to commemorate his life and achievements. The centenary exhibition held in Glasgow presented many relics of Robert Burns his family and friends. In cloth binding. Externally quite smart there are markings to the boards and backstrip as well as wear to extremities joints and backstrip. Internally the pages are firmly bound and are generally bright and clean although there are minor instances of spotting throughout. Some of the dustcovers are detached. Contemporary full red straight-grained morocco with elaborate gilt borders to the boards the spine ruled in gilt and with decorative devices in gilt. Gilt dentelles. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. The contents comprising 24 leaves with 68 mounted engravings with ink-ruled borders and tissue guards. The remainder of the album blank just over half full plus a handful of excised leaves to the rear. The binding remains firm with a little cracking to the hinges rubbing and a few scuffs to the boards and bumping and wear to the corners. The contents with some light scattered foxing occasional finger-marking and creasing to the tissue guards are otherwise in good order. An attractive mid nineteenth-century scrap album containing a collection of fine French engravings depicting mythological literary religious and genre scenes including some engravings after Old Masters. The engravers include Janet Lignon Bein Larcher and Leroux. [Original scrap album]. hardcover

Pages numbered by hand 1-72 are mostly filled with dye recipes and recipes to cure humans from page 109-142 are varnishes dyes and stains. Pages 148 - 200 have medicines for cattle and horses. 201 - 251 are blank and there are a few odd blank sheets in between the hand-written sheets. Vellum boards slightly bowed and soiled otherwise a very clean and sound copy of a unique volume. hardcover
