An over-sized b&w photo of the Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Prize-winning author the image is of him from the shoulder up holding a pipe in his left hand while looking slightly to his right lower left-hand corner carries Faulkner's name in cursive by the photographer the lower right-hand corner is signed by Crowder and dated 1956 apparently the photographer was a Memphis doctor who was treating Faulkner for a "nervous" disorder in the 1950s the verso carries Crowder's inscription "For Mr. & Mrs. Vik/with best wishes/Richard B. Crowder/December 8 1959" this silver gelatin print measures 11X14 inches and is printed on matte canvas-textured paper. The fourteen stories in DOCTOR MARTINO include the previously unpublished "Black Music" and "Leg" as well as "Turn About" the basis for the Howard Hawks film TODAY WE LIVE and one of relatively few Faulkner stories not set in the author's Yoknapatawpha County Mississippi. There are three leaves of his notes laid in. X. J. Joseph Charles Kennedy changed his name when his first poems started to appear to keep his persona distinguishable from Joseph P. Kennedy scion of the political dynasty. He writes award-winning poetry for adults and children as well as textbooks. With Dana Gioia he edited Literature: An Introduction to Fiction Poetry Drama and Writing Longmans and included Faulkner's story "A Rose for Emily" This was likely his copy at Columbia where he received an MA in 1951.
