19672312568New York: The Modern Library 1967. First Thus. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. First thus Toledano 378.1. Top edge lightly foxed jacket faintly toned. 1967 Hard Cover. We have more books available by this author!. 250 pp. 8vo. A novel by the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. "One of William Faulkner's finest novels As I Lay Dying was originally published in 1930 and remains a captivating and stylistically innovative work. The story revolves around a grim yet darkly humorous pilgrimage as Addie Bundren's family sets out to fulfill her last wish: to be buried in her native Jefferson Mississippi far from the miserable backwater surroundings of her married life. Told through multiple voices it vividly brings to life Faulkner's imaginary South one of the great invented landscapes in all of literature and is replete with the poignant impoverished violent and hypnotically fascinating characters that were his trademark. 1939115342New York: Jonathan Cape and Harrison Smith 1939. First edition first issue one of 750 copies with dropped "I" on p. 11 and in the first state binding with lettering unbroken of this work which consistently ranks as one of the greatest works of twentieth century literature. Octavo original cloth. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket with light shelfwear. An exceptional example. Faulkner had stated to have written As I Lay Dying in six weeks with no revisions and its stream-of-consciousness style suggests such an immersive spontaneity. "I set out deliberately to write a tour-de-force. Before I ever put pen to paper and set down the first word I knew what the last word would be and almost where the last period would fall" William Faulkner on As I Lay Dying. "No man ever put more of his heart and soul into the written word than did William Faulkner. If you want to know all you can about that heart and soul the fiction where he put it is still right there" Eudora Welty. Listed by Modern Library as one of the 100 greatest novels of the twentieth century. It is the basis for the 2013 film bearing the same name directed and co-written by and starring James Franco. 42102The Story Lady" was a famed American children's book author whose many works include "Old Russian Tales" 1913 "The Story Lady's Book" 1921 "Tales of Many Folk" 1926. "Story Lady's Christmas Stories" 1927 and many others; their popularity earned her regular storytelling programs on popular Chicago radio stations. ANS 2pp heavy stock linen 5½" X 3½" correspondence card Chicago IL n.y. likely March 1922. Addressed to George. Very good. Two tiny inoffensive mounting traces at left margin not affecting text. Bearing the green printed name/address of "The Faulkner School" a state-of-the-art school for girls founded by her sister in 1909 and where Georgene taught kindergarten Faulkner boldly pens in her large attractive script a note thanking a correspondent for "the honor of being one in your collection of autographs. I have done so little I do not merit having my name in any way in the 'Halls of Fame'." She also transmits not present "one also by McEvoy who does the 'Potters' -- He would give you one I am sure but you might like this also." Writer J.P. McEvoy was Faulkner's editor at P.F. Volland Company her Chicago publisher and the author of the 1922 hit play "The Potters." Faulkner's first editions are quite collectible and her autograph material seldom seen. This example was no doubt occasioned by the debut of her radio program "The Story Lady" on WGN radio. unknown

4787Very Good. Autograph manuscript 8.5 x 11 inch blank leaf half page covered. While it is unclear to which if any of Faulkner's works this page might be linked it does seem rather early possibly from his New Orleans period. It reads in part: "I came to the center of the square and stopped and stood for a moment and let my eyes wander about -- wandering from the darkened store fronts to the center of the square where the marbled confederate soldier stood in strange whitened contrast to the shadowed of the deeply shaded court yard." A visually handsome page from Faulkner in his neat and tiny hand some lines crossed over in his determined manner. Manuscript pages from Faulkner such as this one have become quite uncommon on the market.

unknown books
4788Very Good. Autograph manuscript 8.5 x 11 inch blank leaf. The handwriting in this manuscript especially at times shows similarities to Faulkner's more calligraphic style as can be seen with The Marionettes and other early manuscripts. Primarily dialogue appears on this page with scattered corrections throughout. "You've flown over this route a hundred times" evokes Pylon but the exact use or lack of use of this page is unclear in spite of some effort. Hardly Faulkner at his best but still interesting and worthy of further study. A scarce if fragmented relic from Faulkner.

unknown books
