Original paper wrappers. 8vo, 64 pages. 22cm. In Hebrew and German. Yaari, 1849. Almost certainly the first explicitly Zionist Haggadah to have ever been published. It was distributed by the Zionist Union of Germany (Zionistischen Vereinigung fur Deutschland) , an organization that was established in 1894 by Max Bodenheimer, during World War I. At its peak, the organization had over 25, 000 members and was generally accepted as the umbrella Zionist organization of Germany. Its activities were halted in 1937. (Wikipedia, 2016) This haggadah may have been sent to Jewish soldiers on the frontline, given its publication date. The text appears in two columns, one in German and one in Hebrew.
