An article discussing the Jewish textual support for allowing women to take on pulpit roles in congregations. Rabbi David Aronson was a leading rabbi and author. Born in Russia in 1892, Mr. Aronson attended New York University, Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. After ordination in 1919, Rabbi Aronson served congregations in Salt Lake City and Duluth, Minn. , before joining Beth El in 1924. From 1948 to 1950, he was president of the Rabbinical Assembly of America, an assembly of 1, 200 Conservative rabbis (NYT 1988) . Woman is once more on the program. This time she comes chaperoned by the Central Conference of American Rabbis, and is on her way, -no, not to a Sisterhood Whist Party or to a Sabbath school entertainment, -but to assume her place in the pulpit. Henceforth, she may function as a Rebitzin in her own name and of her own right, and not merely as the wife of a He-rabbi.
