br. Il mostro costituisce il limite di un determinato ordine del discorso e del potere, segnala il punto di crisi dei dispositivi nell'includere, gestire, controllare la differenza. Ma la differenza è mostruosa nella misura in cui pone il pensiero e il linguaggio di fronte ai propri limiti. Tale questione ha carattere riflessivo, riguarda la possibilità di pensare questa indeterminatezza, questo indefinibile a cui il mostro rinvia. La sfida del mostro concerne la stessa pratica filosofica quale pensiero in grado di pensare la differenza singolare e molteplice, senza che tale differenza venga misconosciuta e fraintesa, assoggettata e identificata all'interno di un dispositivo significante, che procede attraverso distinzioni, partizioni, determinazioni. La posta in gioco è alta. Riguarda la possibilità del pensiero di essere critico, pensiero della differenza, pensiero molteplice, in grado di sfuggire alla dialettica della identità e alla sovranità dell'uno. Qui è possibile cogliere il carattere mostruoso del pensiero di Foucault. Un pensiero dell'eccedenza, capace di inquietare e rendere instabile tanto i discorsi che stabiliscono il confine tra identità e differenza, quanto le pratiche di potere che si assumono il compito di governarla.
