"Her Words" celebrates the return of the Great Goddess to the hearts and minds of women (and men) during the late twentieth century. The 140 poems chosen for this anthology span the ages, from the hymns to the goddess Inanna through biblical verses about Sophia and the works of the sixth century poet Sappho to the poetry of twentieth-century authors: Janine Canan, Lucille Clifton, May Sarton, Diane di Prima, Susan Griffin, Patricia Monaghan, Starhawk, Alma Luz Villanueva, and many others. To amplify the cyclical, circular time inherent in women's spirituality, "Her Words" intersperses the works of ancient and modern poets. This nonlinear arrangement highlights the powerful connections modern poets are making with ancient archetypes (Eve, Lilith, Demeter, Kali, and others), validating the natural seasons of women's lives as maidens, mothers, and crones. 249p. bibliograohy index Publisher PR card laid in Book

She presented three bodies of work at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900: a collection of photographs by American women, a series of photographs of students in the Washington, D.C., school system, and a series of photographs of students from the Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute. These exhibits all promoted the nationalistic agenda of progress at the Paris Exposition, illustrating American advancement in art, education, and society." ; "Johnston was a significant-and arresting-figure in early twentieth-century photography.Johnston produced a good deal of the usual society portraiture of the time-including a nude photograph of a debutante that prompted the girl's outraged father to file a lawsuit-but she was also an important photodocumentarian. Students of African American history can reexamine life at Hampton Institute (now Hampton University) or Tuskegee using hundreds of photographs made by Johnston at the turn of the last century.through Johnston's work we can see Admiral Dewey on the deck of the USS Olympia, the Roosevelt children playing with their pet pony at the White House, and the gardens of Edith Wharton's famous villa near Paris. Johnston's major project on early vernacular architecture of the American South preserves scores of buildings that no longer exist except on her film." ; photos of the famous include Thordore ROosevelt, Susan B Anthony, Mark Twain, William McKinley, Joel Chandler Harris, Admiral Dewey, Booker T. Library stickers on the spine, inside of the cover and FEP, Stamp on title page., Written by feminists and other researchers from the disciplines of psychology, sociology, anthropology, and management science, the 14 essays in this collection are about women's experience of paid work and women's ways of coping with employment stress. The opening essays highlight the social and cultural changes that have compelled women to develop new coping strategies. Several contributing authors examine specific workplace structures and describe women's experiences in different occupational contexts - whether hostile or hospitable. Shifting from a structural to an individual perspective, other contributors deal with psychosocial factors, such as gender differences, that have been found to moderate stress and enhance the coping process. They analyze individual experiences with work - related stressors, focusing on the mediating effects of cognitive appraisals. This work contains contributions by Nina Colwill, Bruce E. Compas, Esther R. Greenglass, Barbara Gutek, Catherine A. Heaney, Sharon E. Kahn, Ronald C. Kessler, Karen Korabik, Bonita C. Long, Judi Marshall, Diana L. Mawson, Lisa M. McDonald, Pamela G. Book in virtually mint condition. 128pp. This study from the women of the Liverpool Women's History Group gives us a fascinating insight into their lives in the 1930s and 1940s. For most the 1930s was a time of extreme poverty, when women were virtually shackled to the home by the drudgery involved in bringing up large families without any modern appliances. The 1940s were characterised by the anxiety of war and separation, rationing and make-do and mend.
