Edition originale, rare, publiée grâce à une souscription et à un porte-à-porte militant auprès de personnalités célèbres comme d'ouvrières et d'ouvriers, après que le manuscrit ait été refusé par les principaux éditeurs. "L’oeuvre maîtresse de Flora Tristan (…). Pour faire entendre cet appel à la constitution de la classe ouvrière, elle accomplit un tour de France où son enthousiasme généreux est mis à rude épreuve et au bout duquel, seule et épuisée, elle meurt, à quarante et un ans. 'L’Union ouvrière' est le premier manifeste politique cohérent d’une femme qui ne dissocie pas la lutte des femmes de la lutte ouvrière. C’est aux plus démunies, aux plus exploitées d’entre elles qu’elle adresse cette apostrophe qui nous touche encore aujourd’hui: 'Mes sœurs, je vous jure que je vous délivrerai.' C’est aussi, quelques années avant Marx et Engels, l’un des premiers appels à l’union internationale de la classe ouvrière" (D. Armogathe et J. Grandjonc, éd. des Femmes). Première édition in-12, parue un an après l'édition originale chez le même éditeur. Alexandre Dumas aurait composé ces pseudo-Mémoires de Catherine-Charlotte de Gramont (1639-1678) en collaboration avec la comtesse Dash. Ces "Mémoires" sont en fait une biographie romancée de l’épouse de Louis Ier de Monaco. Catherine et son époux furent appelés à la cour de France. La princesse devint surintendante de la maison d'Henriette d'Angleterre, belle-sœur de Louis XIV. Sa grande beauté lui attira de nombreux courtisans. La cour la surnomma "le Torrent" et Mme de Sévigné la décrit comme "vorace de plaisirs". Elle mena une vie aventureuse, partagée entre les intrigues de la cour de Louis XIV avec lequel elle entretint une relation en 1665, son amour pour le duc de Lauzun et ses séjours à Monaco. Quelques petites épidermures. Bon exemplaire.

An article discussing the Jewish textual support for allowing women to take on pulpit roles in congregations. Rabbi David Aronson was a leading rabbi and author. Born in Russia in 1892, Mr. Aronson attended New York University, Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. After ordination in 1919, Rabbi Aronson served congregations in Salt Lake City and Duluth, Minn. , before joining Beth El in 1924. From 1948 to 1950, he was president of the Rabbinical Assembly of America, an assembly of 1, 200 Conservative rabbis (NYT 1988) . Woman is once more on the program. This time she comes chaperoned by the Central Conference of American Rabbis, and is on her way, -no, not to a Sisterhood Whist Party or to a Sabbath school entertainment, -but to assume her place in the pulpit. Henceforth, she may function as a Rebitzin in her own name and of her own right, and not merely as the wife of a He-rabbi.
