Edition Française de ce premier ouvrage important sur la thermométrie clinique et le seul traitement scientifique du sujet avant Wunderlich. L'ouvrage contient une planche d'une comparaison de 15 échelles thermométriques différentes qui accompagne le deuxième essai du volume. Le traducteur a également joint trois autres essais et articles relatifs à la thermodynamique. Martine mourut aux Amériques lors d'une expédition en 1741 et ne vit pas le succès de ses recherches. Cette série d'essais fut la première critique sérieuse du thermomètre à 80 degrés de Réaumur.
