The wartime paper is browned and friable but small closed tears along fold lines and edges have been neatly repaired with archival washi on the verso. 79 x 53cm This colour map of Asia and the Pacific was published as a supplement to a magazine Hoso 放送 on January 1942 less than one month after the Pearl Harbor attack by the Japanese Forces. The war had just started but amazingly the map accurately predicted where the fighting would take place throughout the war. An inset map on upper right shows Singapore Borneo Sumatra and Java where battles took place in the area in early 1942. An inset chart on lower left shows various resources and their location including coal tin and iron ore clearly showing that the war was fought over securing resources. On reverse eleven photographic illustrations of war ships from Germany Britain the US and Japan are shown including the Prince of Wales and Enterprise. . 日本放送出版会社. Some light browning a little darker at folds and reverse washi repairs to folds on reverse. This colour map of Asia and the Pacific published on 30 January 1942—just one month after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor—offers a striking glimpse into wartime strategy and propaganda. Remarkably despite being produced at the war's outset it accurately anticipated key battlegrounds that would define the conflict. The main map is supplemented by two inset maps: one in the upper right highlighting Japan the Hawaiian Islands and Honolulu and another in the lower left focusing on Singapore with Darwin marked along the lower edge. <br> <br>The reverse side features a revealing chronological chart titled "Building Great East Asia" documenting Japan's military expansion from the 1931 Manchurian Incident through January 1942 as troops advanced across Southeast Asia. Notably two blank rows were intentionally left at the chart's end anticipating future victories to be recorded as the war progressed—a telling detail that underscores the map's dual role as both strategic document and propaganda tool. This highly legible letter to a father from his son talks about more than the "usual" life in an army camp. There are certainly routine matters covered like receiving letters from family members and requests for money but he also talks about his legal misfortunes. While it is unclear what issues are involved it is clear he has some military legal problems which he hopes to resolve by the time his regiment is 'mustered." The letter makes it sound like it is something important and probably related to his military standing. His father appears to suggest that he should take his case to Washington but the son decides to wait it out. The son Jon indicates that while he feels badly over his misfortunes he really feels badly for his friends and relatives. This suggests along with a comment about handling the impact on public opinion that this case was a visible one. He also complains about the cost of living in the South which he says is twice what it is in the North and indicates he pays $10 per week for boarding. That would seem to be very high when measured at a soldier's pay during this period. He does throw in a couple of comments about the war including that "Sherman too is still in successful pursuit." he also states that nothing is heard from General Smith "but his safety and success is a thing assured."

This work was written in response to Mauduit's CONSIDERATIONS. which argued that Britain should further her war against France in North America and the East Indies while abandoning the war in Continental Europe. The present pamphlet argues that it is impossible for a large commercial nation such as Britain to ignore events in Europe. 171934228New York: Schwäbisches Wochenblatt 1917-1919. First Edition. Ninety-one quarto 29.75cm. issues bound together in contemporary reddish-brown cloth; illus. throughout. Textblock quite toned due to poor paper stock light edge wear to cloth extremities else Very Good and sound. Quite possibly complete set the numbering ends after no. 13 misprinted 31 and a few weeks appear to have been skipped. Humor supplement to the weekly Schwabian-American newspaper Schwäbisches Wochenblatt. Though we find no records for the New York-based newspaper or its supplement we do find a newspaper of the same name published by the Social Democratic Party of Germany. This periodical also appears to be anti-capitalist the cartoon on the first page of the first issue shows a worker slicing open the money-bag gut of Mammon. Most significantly this periodical began publication months after the United States entered World War I with much of the content on the plight of the German-born American citizens another cartoon shows an American citizen of German birth in a muzzle. Walpole's long diplomatic efforts praised by the anonymous author of this pamphlet would soon prove to have been in vain as the Prime Minister reluctantly declared war on Spain later in the year. The result was the desultory affair known as the War of Jenkins' Ear. Of this pamphlet's two 1739 editions the present one is given priority by EUROPEAN AMERICANA and CATALOGUE OF THE GOLDSMITHS' LIBRARY OF ECONOMIC LITERATURE. Sabin 64143 this pamphlet criticizes the Convention of El Pardo and Prime Minister Walpole's other diplomatic efforts to avoid war with Spain. The House of Commons sided overwhelmingly with the belligerent faction claiming abuses of British seamen and unfair interruption of trade by the Spanish authorities in the Caribbean and pressured Walpole into commencing the War of Jenkins' Ear in October 1739. The letter is written by Stephen Lush 1753-1825 to Jellis Jacob Fonda 1751-1839. It relates to taxes on land in New York owned jointly by Lush and Fonda. John Lansing an attorney and former delegate to the Constitutional Convention seems to have resquested the payment of one shilling per acre on the 40000 of acres they own jointly. Provides some interesting content on land taxation for the period. Lush practiced law in Albany until the War for Independence; he was commissioned a captain and saw action in New York City but was captured by the British. Major Fonda was considered one of the first patriots of Schenectady and after Lexington he formed a company of Minutemen. He fought in the Campaign against Burgoyne and at the Battle of Bemis Heights. Fonda organization website. ny education government website.
