The pairs of photographs are uniformly mounted on the publishers' salmon-pink cards with English-language captions underneath the photographs repeated in six languages on the verso. The size of the arch-topped prints is approximately 80 × 78 mm; the card size is 88 × 178 mm. Some photographs and cards are a little foxed or marked; all cards are a little rubbed and marked at the extremities; minor signs of age and use; overall in good condition. Three of the photographs show activities in the field. Another card has specific Australian content: 'Skirmish Drill New South Wales Mounted Rifles Cape Town'. <p>Offered together with two similar stereographs published by M.E. Wright Excelsior Stereoscopic Tours Burnley England. The captions are 'Ladysmith and Lombard's Kop from Convent Hill' 1900 and 'Interior of a Field Hospital' 1901. Appendix in back includes extremely detailed tables and charts of officers' and soldiers' pay numbers of casualties in specified battles numbers of fugative slaves debt charts for the Federals and value of real estate property. Book is in -Very Good Condition- with medium amounts of foxing considering the age mostly on the end pages binding is good inside of hindges cracked first few pages have slight pencil markings. Book is divided into two parts. 1- Causes of the Rebellion- from the origin of the government to the election of President Lincoln 2- History of the Rebellion -From the Election of President Lincoln to the close of the war finished in vol. 2. The writer then critiques Woodward's famed 1860 speech criticizing "The Falseness of its Statements in regard to the Abolition of Slavery by the North" "Judge Woodward's Bible Views of Slavery" and "The Right of Secession as Claimed by Judge Woodward." Woodward critic of course does not let him forget his infamous statement that "We must reassert the rights of the slave-holder." Not in Sabin. Interesting and unusual. N.p. paperback
