296625New York. Original poster mounted on linen. Page measures 44" x 27 3/8".

This World War I poster is part of a series published by the United War Work Campaign or UWWC a coalition of seven service organizations charged with raising $170000000 to help demobilize the army and maintain morale in the final few years of the war. The campaign was a success and was at the time recognized as the largest fundraising event in history. The War Camp Community Service was one of two secular organizations in the campaign. Their work was largely focused on the social and recreational needs of enlisted men in homefront training camps. This poster promotes New York War Camp Community Service at 49-55 West 27th Street and features artwork of a man in colonial garb welcoming three servicemen to New York City signed "Wag '18". An illustration of a bald eagle holding a banner with the US flag is included alongside the text "Your Uniform is your Pass We Can Tell You What To Do What To See Where To Eat Where To Sleep." Poster is in good condition with minor scuffing and abrasions. Otherwise pleasing with vibrant colors. Folded as issued.

unknown
40506New York: H. De Marsan n.y. Broadside. 6¼" X 10". Very good. Numerous edge chips along right side and bit on lower edge only slightly encroaching on decorative border. This crudely printed broadside ballad undated but circa 1861 includes a thick decorative patriotic border featuring red and blue stars and stripes olive-branch clutching American Eagle etc. with publisher's data "H. De Marsan Publisher / 54 Chatham St. / N.Y." at bottom center of border. Sung to the tune of "Marshal Ney" a popular tune celebrating the Napoleonic figure this Civil War tune celebrates the 69th New York Infantry Regiment the "Fighting Irish" or "Fighting Sixty-Ninth." Two stanzas and one chorus are featured the chorus reading: "Right and left -- left and right: / We fought the Rebels with all our might; / Brave CORCORAN did wounded fall / And HAGGERTY died by a Traitor's ball." Irish-born Michael Corcoran 1827-63 led the 69th at the First Battle of Bull Run in July 1861 in which he was taken prisoner and Irish-born Captain James Haggerty the first member of the 69th to die was reportedly killed by a Louisiana Zouave which also included many Irishmen. These "penny ballads" were all the rage during much of the 19th century and were invariably printed on thin delicate stock and sold by street vendors. A quite attractive example of this rare survivor. Inkstamped on verso is "Geo. F. Hambrecht" -- a well-known Civil War collector and noted Lincoln scholar 1871-1943 who founded the Lincoln Fellowship of Wisconsin and served as director of the Wisconsin State Board of Vocational Education. H. De Marsan unknown

199262845New York: Random House 1992. Uncorrected Proof. 8vo. 24cm x 15.5cm. Publisher's printed card wraps some scuffing to the laminate here and there but otherwise a near fine copy. 402pp. Internally clean. Black and white charts and diagrams to prelims. A calm informed nothing held back account of one the most influential battles of the early stages of the Vietnam conflict. Moore and Galloway both present for the events of the book Moore in command and Galloway as a correspondent recount step by step the progress of the battle; the first major engagement of the war the first to extensively use helicopters to drop troops and equipment into battle and the first engagment to utilise B-25 bombers as air support. Galloway describes Ia Drang as "The battle that convinced Ho Chi Minh he could win." although that had little to do with the fighting ability of the 7th Cavalry and more to do with the swift tactics lessons the battle offered and the realisation that the US could take but not hold fight but not pursue and they could destroy but only what was on the surface. It changed the course of the conflict for both sides and took many prior strategic techniques back to the drawing board. Uncorrected proofs of this title are quite scarce. Random House unknown
199228678New York:: Random House 1992. First Printing of the First US Edition. A Fine tight copy in a Fine bright clipped dust jacket. On Nov. 14 1965 the 1st Battalion of the 7th Cavalry commanded by Lt. Col. Moore and accompanied by UPI reporter Galloway helicoptered into Vietnam's remote Ia Drang Valley and found itself surrounded by a numerically superior force of North Vietnamese regulars. Moore and Galloway here offer a detailed account based on interviews with participants and on their own recollections of what happened during the four-day battle. Both sides claimed victory the U.S. calling it a validation of the newly developed doctrine of airmobile warfare. Supplemented with maps the memoir is a vivid re-creation of the first major ground battle of the Vietnam War. Photos. Random House, unknown
