19442727841944. unbound. Inscribed in a calligrapher's hand: "To E.L. Alperson for his help in the fight against infantile paralysis" no date circa 1944. Alperson 1895 - 1969 was an American film producer at Warner Brothers who later formed Grand National Distributors as an outlet for independent films in the 1940s. In 1942 he became the general manager of RKO Pictures' theater circuit and it is likely that his work with the March of Dimes earned him this personally signed engraving from the President. 13.75 x 10.5 inches set in a gorgeous wood burgundy stained frame measuring 17 x 14 inches. Roosevelt has signed this boldly with a brown fountain pen. The engraving has a few scattered small spots but is still in near fine condition.<br/><br/> Evidence suggests that Roosevelt signed this piece in early 1944. In February 1943 motion picture theaters organized a drive to raise funds for the March of Dimes. On his birthday January 30 in 1944 Roosevelt signed lithographs such as this one in order to thank those whose work helped make the drive successful. According to auction records Roosevelt presented a similar engraving to Frank Meyer an executive at Paramout Pictures Corporation. Accompanying Meyer's engraving when it was sold at auction was a copy of a book titled "So They May Walk Again.A Book of good Deeds / Report of Collectors by Motion Picture Theatres / March of Dimes / February 18 to 24 1943 / In Co-Operation with National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis."<br/><br/> unknown books

When acting out as part of the nursery tales however she responds with both initiative and imagination." Together with a school progress report in the subject of dancing from the same date the comments reading in part "Maria has unusual natural ability for dancing. However she has not shown the co-operation and interest in the past few months so outstanding earlier in the term." Both 3.5 x 6 inches and from the collection of Mia Farrow. During this time Cohen was a contributor to the Dutoitspan Herald. His first book Reminiscences of Kimberley got him sued by mining magnate J.R. Robinson and put into bankrutcy. According to Newman AMERICAN WOMEN WRITERS this work is a "more open honest statement of the sexuality of women than the major realists of the period allowed". Needless to say it was a best-seller. Two slight creases to the cover some toning; overall in fine condition.<br>The work was at least in part inspired by Bartók's unrequited love for the violinist Stefi Geyer - in a letter to her he called the first movement a "funeral dirge" and its opening notes trace a motif which first appeared in his Violin Concerto No. 1 a work dedicated to Geyer and suppressed by Bartók for many years. Julius Bittner was an Austrian composer known primarily for his stage works. He composed both the music and libretti for fifteen operas including his most successful work "Das höllisch Gold" of 1916. In his later years he turned more to operetta and collaborated with Korngold on "Walzer aus Wien" 1930 a Johann Strauss-inspired operetta. In addition to his stage works Bittner also composed orchestral and chamber music lieder choral music a large-scale mass and a requiem mass that was left unfinished at his death.<br/><br/>The Honig family emigrated from Vienna to England in September of 1938 and then to the United States in 1939. The family papers are held at the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C.<br/><br/>"Horne had a voice of extraordinary range rich and tangy in timbre with a stentorian chest register and an exciting top. In concert she once achieved the feat of singing in a single programme Rossini arias and Brünnhilde's Immolation Scene proof of her exceptional versatility. In very good condition overall. "Although Bittner's output embraces orchestral and chamber music a large-scale Mass and several lieder and choruses he devoted most of his creative energies towards writing for the stage. His passion for opera was fuelled by attending a performance of Lohengrin at the age of 12 and following the precedent set by Wagner he wrote the librettos for 15 of his own operas. Although his early attempts at the genre were not performed publicly his friendship with the conductor Bruno Walter proved decisive in establishing his reputation primarily with the opera Der Musikant produced in Vienna in 1910. His most successful work was Das höllisch Gold 1916 in which he emulated the example of his older compatriot Wilhelm Kienzl in attempting to merge the principles of German Singspiel with a post-Wagnerian harmonic language."
