An important marker in the development of rocketry and space flight the pamphlet sums up Goddard's pioneering work in rocketry over the previous two decades. On March 16 1926 Goddard launched the world's first liquid propellant rocket from a site near Auburn Massachusetts and he would continue to develop the technology for the rest of his life. He held over 200 patents relating to rocketry and space flight and in honor of his contributions NASA named its first space-flight center after him. The duet here given terminates with Isabeau submitting to an act of obedience by bowing low before her father and then kissing his feet "Mio padre.e Re!.e Re saggio!" Isabeau premiered on June 2 1911 at the Teatro Coliseo Buenos Aires and was conducted personally by Mascagni. The Italian premier was held several months later at La Scala in Milan. A rare offering by what many scholars of operatic music believe to be "one of the most underrated Italian composers of the Golden Era." This work is a monumental and innovative thesis of Oscar Amoedo y Valdes MARKING THE BIRTH OF THE FORENSIC DENTISTRY. It was the first treatise on forensic odontology and according to Vale History of Bitemark Evidence it was not until 1966 that the second major text on the subject Gustafson's treatise Forensic odontology appeared after this masterpiece. This text provoked a great sensation and had a great influence on the development of this discipline throughout the world. / Oscar Amoedo y Valdes 1863-1945 a native of Matanzas Cuba graduated as a dental surgeon in Havana then took a degree from the New York Dental College. He moved to Paris in 1889 and decided to study medicine. The burning of the bazaar of Charity on May 4 1897 during which dentists were solicited to identify victims gave Amoedo the opportunity to take an interest in this new discipline legal odontology. Amoedo considered the creator of forensic odontology became professor at the Ecole Odontologique and president of the Odontological Society of France. During World War II the Germans imprisoned and transferred him in a concentration camp. Oscar Amoedo y Valdes died in Toulouse on September 27th 1945. He was 82 years old. "This is not a thesis but a treatise on odontology. It has filled in great gaps that existed as regards forensic identification." -- Brouardel July 7 1898. 12th International Congress in Moscow Amoedo recounted the mission of the dentists in identifying the corpses of the Bazar de la Charite disaster. / There are 52 detailed observations; The first of them concern victims of the fire of the Bazaar of Charity including that of the Duchess of Alencon transmitted by Davenport. Henry de la Vaulx 1870–1930 who knew Jules Verne was a balloonist author and cofounder of major French and international aeronautical associations. On Oct 9 1900 he and a companion set a distance record in a balloon traveling 1200 miles from Vincennes France to Korostishev near Kiev Ukraine in 35.75 hours. Also in 1900 he received the Grand Medal of the Aero Club of France for exceptional contributions to the progress of aviation. First edition in first state binding and second state text.<br /><br /><i>Jennie Gerhardt</i> was Theodore Dreiser's second novel and his first true commercial success. Today it is generally regarded as one of his three best novels along with <i>Sister Carrie</i> and <i>An American Tragedy</i>. As submitted to Harper and Brothers in 1911 Jennie Gerhardt was a powerful study of a woman tragically compromised by birth and fate. Harpers agreed to publish the book but was nervous about its subject matter and moral stance. Jennie has an illegitimate child by one man and lives out of wedlock with another - but Dreiser does not condemn her for her behavior. As a requirement for publication Harpers insisted on cutting and revising the text. Although Dreiser fought against many of the cuts and succeeded in restoring some material Harpers shortened the text by 16000 words and completely revised its style and tone. These changes ultimately transformed Jennie Gerhardt from a blunt carefully documented work of social realism to a touching love story merely set against a social background. Passages critical of organized religion and of the institution of marriage were reduced and altered. Perhaps most important Jennie's point of view - her innate romantic mysticism - was largely edited out of the text. As a consequence the central dialectic of the novel was skewed and the narrative thrown out of balance.<br /><br /><b>Condition:</b><br /><br />Cloth spine lightly sunned with some rubbing previous owner's signatures to front blank and rear paste down. Aston used the word "isotopes" to describe atoms of differing weights within the same element a term first coined by Frederick Soddy to describe separate elements that are nevertheless homogeneous in chemical behavior." :: Norman. He was romantically linked to film star Ramon Navarro and philanthropist Noel Sullivan.
