New English Paperback. Pbo. Roy. 8vo. In English. 295 p. This book aims to generate a set of ideas on the East West relations through the prisms of academics and intellectuals from Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina, who had exchanged and discussed their ideas in a conference titled as "The Conference on East West Relations: Past, Present and Future." The Conference was jointly organized by Ramazan Gözen on behalf of the Ankara Center for Thought and Research Center (ADAM) and Ertugrul Tacgin on behalf of the Inter national University of Sarajevo (IUS), and held in the IUS, Sarajevo, on 14-15 February 2008 with a grant from Turkish International Co operation and Development Agency (TIKA). A set of related issues were discussed from different academic perspectives in two panels and four sessions. The first panel focused on historical and contemporary perspectives or the East-West relations, and the second panel on Bosnia Herzegovina's and Turkey's relations with the European Union, focusing on their integration and membership processes. To this end, the Conference brought together representatives from academia, business community, government, specialized NGOs and think tanks from the region. The book includes 15 chapters which are divided into three subject areas: History, International Politics, and Economics.

Images of our time: Works from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo.= Günümüz imgeleri: Saraybosna Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi'nden yapitlar. [Exhibition catalogue]. The Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Sarajevo was founded in 1972 as the first Academy of Fine Arts in Bosnia and Herzegovina and became one of the forerunners in Bosnian contemporary art. An openness for diverse artistic poetics, a departure from strict academism, flexibility of curricula in interaction with the wider social community, synergy between traditional design knowledge and skills and new media challenges have all led the numerous graduates from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo to become recognised artists, designers and professors throughout the world. The exhibition catalogue presents an essay by curator Aida Abadzic Hodzic discussing the contemporary interpretations of Bosnian young artists and works in various media created by undergraduate and graduate students, as well as graduates of the six faculties of the academy, including painting, sculpture, art education, printmaking, graphic and product design. The works survey contemporary art in Bosnia Herzegovina and offers comments and reflections by its young artists on the history, and social, political, economic and cultural issues of the country.

"At the end of the twentieth century people spoke as if the Balkans had plagued Europe forever." "Mark Mazower dispels current Western cliches and replaces stereotypes with an account of how mountains, empires and religions have shaped their inhabitants' lives. As a bridge between Europe and Asia the Balkans has been exposed to a constant incursion of nomadic peoples across the centuries. Mountain ranges made farming hard and political control almost impossible and allowed small communities to live side by side through to the end of the twentieth century. Empires based on religion not ethnicity shaped customs and beliefs in ways that did not entirely vanish with the coming of modernity." A short but well researched introduction to the complex and always compelling history of the Balkans. 160p. bibliography. index Book
New English Paperback. 4to. (29 x 14 cm). In English and Turkish. 112 p., ills. Mersad Berber: An allegory Bosnia.= Bir Bosna alegorisi. Edited by Begüm Akkoyunlu Ersöz, Tania Bahar. Curated by Aida Abadzic Hodzic. The exhibition centres on the art of Mersad Berber, who is one of the greatest and most significant representatives of Bosnian?Herzegovinian art from the second half of the 20th century. Inspired by the great European masters, from Renaissance to Art Nouveau, Berber?s works exemplify the deep, opaque whites of his journeys through the fairy tale landscapes of Bosnia to the dark, macabre burrows of Srebrenica. The exhibition catalogue includes essays by Aida Abadzic Hodzic, the curator of the show and a well-known art historian, teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, and by Edward Lucie-Smith, the art critic and the honorary consultant of the project. While Abadzic Hodzic concentrates on how the art of Berber reflects all the multi-layered cultural history of his country; Lucie-Smith, who had worked with the artist in several exhibitions, focuses on his art within the European art history scene.
